Guest guest
"Power-Napping" Boosts Productivity http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/3012322.stm BOSTON, U.S.A., June 23, 2003: Getting an hour's sleep during the day may be as beneficial as a whole night in bed, according to scientists. But the "power-nap" only works if the sleep is of the right quality, say the experts from Harvard University. Experts also add that a full night's sleep is still necessary for many vital body functions, even though a short sleep may boost learning and memory. The Harvard research, published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, compared the learning and memory skills of two groups of people during a single day, and again the following morning. One group was told not to sleep at all during the day, and, as expected, their performance tailed off into the afternoon and evening. The other group was allowed to have an hour or 90 minutes nap at 2 p.m. The researchers were looking for two different sleep phases -- slow wave sleep, and rapid eye movement, which is normally associated with dreaming. Those whose sleep involved both phases fared significantly better than those who had no sleep when given a learning test later in the day. livingentity
If I take a nap..my day is ruined. I am a zombie afterwards and muddled headed. Better for me not to even try it. Besides, I always feel like I am wasting precious time if I take a nap. I only do a nap if I am sick or was not able to sleep the night before. Guest guest
it has been proven that if you sleep for more than 30 minutes then your nap can affect your sleeping cycle. if you feel like a zombie afterwards than you're probably sleeping for too long. only take a nap for 15-30 minutes and then you wil feel better. Guest guest
You may also feel like a zombie because you fall asleep after taking lunch. Devotees usually eat quite a heavy meal around 13:00. Personally I find it very hard to sleep during the day, due to the noise, light etc. It takes a lot of time falling asleep, which I find a waste. paul108
Sometimes I take a quick lunch at work and then go to my car for the remainder of my break. I'll set the alarm on my phone, and sleep for 20 minutes. Afterwards I feel somewhat dazed for about 15 minutes, but then I'm refreshed and ready for the rest of the day. Otherwise I would be sleepy and unproductive the whole afternoon. Also I find it nearly impossible to get any work done unless I'm listening to Srila Prabhupada's lecturs or other devotee's talking about Krishna.
