Guest guest
Dear devotees, Muralidhar das here... here are some links with pictures of Ratha Yatra in Puri These links are to pages of photos taken by Smt. Jamuna Priya didi, one of the secretaries / assistants of Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Maharaj. My wife and I took three rolls of photos and we plan to put the best pictures online, but I need to get the photos developed, so it will take a few days. We watched the early part of the festival from the roof of the palace of the Maharaja of Puri, observing all the events from there. Along with my wife and sons I was standing beside the chariot of Baladeva when Jagannathadeva was being carried out of his temple, and we were nearly killed in the crush. It really was quite dangerous. Dozens of people collapsed in the heat. But the excitement was a peak experience of my life. Tears were filling the eyes of many devotees and the sound of the drums and gongs and Hari-Nama made me think I really was in Vaikuntha. We made our way to the palace of the Maharaja, and saw the procession of the king from his palace to Jagannatha's chariot. The king is a friend of Srila B.S. GOvinda Maharaja and other senior acharyas within the Gaudiya Math. We watched the sweeping of the street on the TV from there on the roof of the Maharaja's palace, and saw the beginning of the chariot pulling and procession. Just before that, we could see the king standing on the chariot of Jagannatha and doing aroti. http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030701_puri_rathayatra/030701_puri_rathayatra.html http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030701evening_puri_rathayatra/030701_rathayatra_gundicha.html http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030702_puri_sgovm_sastri/030702_puri_sgovm_sastri.html http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030630_purimath_sgovmj/030630_purimath_sgovmj.html http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030702_puri_sgovm/030702_puri_sgovm.html http://scsmath.org/memories/03/030702_puri_sgovm/030702_puri_sgovm.html
