Jahnava Nitai Das
Theist: As an aside--- Jndas if you have time and the facilities are satisfactory maybe you could tell us about some of the things that you are doing in Orissa. You mentioned working on building two new temples. How is that going? Hare Krsna Hare Krishna! Sorry for replying to this so late. Attached is a diagram of one of the the new projects. This is located in the village of Randiya, around 10 km from Bhadrak. Construction will begin in August. The idea is to create a community centered project that will eventually become the center of the nearby villages, providing both material assistance and spiritual guidance. This project will become a prototype that we will replicate in other villages. We are already making plans to do similar projects in three other villages around Bhadrak. http://www.audarya-fellowship.com/download.php?Number=50602 The following are the main features: 1) School 2) Goshala 3) Kalyana Mandapa (Marriage Hall) & Anna Dana Hall 4) Old Age Retirement Ashram 5) Krishna Temple 6) Medical Clinic 1) School - A school for poor and needy students. It will have a mixed curiculum of modern education as well as lessons on the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam. In this way all the children will have a solid spiritual foundation as they grow up. The children will also be provided free prasadam meals every day in addition to all needed scool supplies and uniforms. 2) Goshala - The goshala will be for the protection of old cows which are neglected and left unatended in the street. 3) Kalyana Mandapa (Marriage Hall) & Anna Dana Hall - At first we will conduct free distribution of prasadam meals twice a week and gradually increase. During the marriage season we will provide the kalyana mandapa to poor families and perform their marriages free of charge. During marriages, it is always the girl's parents who have to pay for the marriage arrangements, and one of the largest expenses is the renting of a marriage hall to perform the marriage. By providing this service for free, it will help reduce the burden on parents of female children. 4) Old Age Retirement Ashram - Some old people have no children to take care of them, so we will create a simple ashram where old people can come and stay in exchange for performing nama-sankirtana. We will have a 24 hour Hare Krishna nama sankirtana in our temple, and the old people will attend in shifts for a couple hours a day chanting Hare Krishna. In return they will be provided a place to stay, prasadam meals, medical facilities, etc. It will be a retirement ashram where they only have to chant japa and attend some nama sankirtana, with everything else being taken care of for them. 5) Temple - A Krishna (Jagannatha) temple will serve as the center of the project, where we will hold daily satsangas, with nama-sankirtana, lectures on the Bhagavad Gita, etc. 6) Medical Clinic - We will open a medical clinic where we provide free treatment to the poor and needy. In these areas it is common for villagers to have to walk 10 km just to get to the nearest medical clinic. This will provide easy access to medical facilities, and all services will be free of charge. We plan to open similar projects in other villages near to Bhadrak. Once these projects have proven successful we hope to launch them in Tamil Nadu as well.
