PITRU PAKSHA

September 10 - September 25, 2003

 

 

Pitru Paksha is a period of fifteen days designated as an especially powerful time to honor our ancestors. According to the Indian lunar calendar, this year this auspicious time of remembrance begins on September 10 and culminates with the new moon on September 25. There are certain recommended observances during this time.

 

The ancient Vedic scriptures of India tell us that our ancestors include not only members of our own family lineage, but also those who have contributed to our welfare in this or previous lives. They include teachers, mentors, role models, friends, and those who have walked the spiritual path before us and whose support lives on in the subtle imprint of their footsteps.
