theist
is it New Years or not? I am already confused enough with Chinese New year on top of the regular one. I can probably handle one more but ya gotta tell me straight.

theist
Does that mean that today is the first of Chaitra? Is this observed throughout all of India?
gokulkr
there are three hindu calendars. 1) Aryan calendar. 2) Telugu ( or kannada )calendar. 3) Tamil calendar. first is followed by north-indians & by "most" hindus. second is followed by kannda & telugu hindus. third is followed by tamil hindus. so date differ in three calendars. but basics are same. so today is first day of chittirai. so it is actually new year for tamil hindus (not for north-indians , telugu & kannadas) the name of this tamil year is Dhaaran /images/graemlins/smile.gif Jai Shri Krishna /images/graemlins/smile.gif Om Shri Pujyaya Guru Raghavendraya
