krsna
Like Srila Bhaktisiddhanta did take his sanyasa vesa from a picture of Srila Gour Kisora Das Babaji Maharaja... What need is there to take from another sanyasa , especially if the disciple candidate is qualified?
theist
Well brings up some questions. Was there such a person before Srila Bhaktisiddhanta? Vaisnava sannyasis I mean. Also everyone says guru is in his picture well maybe Bhaktisiddhanta realized that and felt no pressure to look further. I admit to having questions as to the relevance of it in todays society. That is the formality of it.
Kulapavana
"Is it alright to take sanyasa initiation from a picture of the guru?" At that time there were no legitimate sannyasis in our sampradaya, so instead of taking initiation from an Advaitin sannyasi (like Lord Chaitanya) Srila Bhaktisiddhanta took sannyasa initiation from his departed guru.
