Chanting question, requesting guidance from senior devotees

I really need some guidance from someone who has been through this.

 

Regarding chanting: I've read that one should chant attentively and sincerely and try to keep the mind fixed on Krishna.

 

But what exactly are we supposed to concentrate on? His form? His pastimes? Or should we just think "please engage me in Your service", or are we just to hear the names and not think anything.

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was on a walk with Srila Prabhupada in Honolulu when he was asked about controlling the mind while chanting. His solution was rather plain: chant with your tongue and listen with your ear. There's plenty more, but it all comes from the holy names.
