Pushpadanta
Some say that to be a Hindu is to believe in Vedas and do some rituals, study the Vedas and other things. Others say that for to be a Hindu is necessary perform the Namakarana Samskara, and this is the one way. Just say "I am a Hindu" is not suficient and correct. If I see Hinduism as a tradition, and study Shrutis and Smritis, then I am a Hindu. But, if I see Hinduism as a religion, I can say that I am Hindu just with Namakarana. This is correct? mpuri
There is none fortunately or unfortunately, so there's no litmus test. Some might suggest that 'everyone is a hindu'! Check out some of the following links though: http://www.hindu.org/ http://writing.lantenengo.com/hindu.php Here's a nice online book that discusses just this issue: http://www.bharatvani.org/books/wiah/
Pankaja_Dasa
If you think I am Hindu sometimes ok, other times your in bodily conception. I.e A white body person thinks Krishna is Hindu. A Hindu thinks Jesus is only for white peoples. A Muslims thinks you have to be Muslim to know God. A Hindu thinks Allah is not God {I am generallizing}. A Muslim may blaspheme Krishna, and then pray to Allah. A Christian may pray to Jesus Christ and Blashpeme Krishna and Allah. Now if this doesn't make you smile your a stone!
