krsna
Hindu View of the Ten Commandments by HPI The public display of the Bible's "Ten Commandments" has prompted a number of law suits in the US on the issue of separation of church and state. How do Hindus view the Ten Commandments ? Specifically do Hindus find these commandments offensive or threatening when displayed in a public place or on an official building, such as a courthouse? The most common translation, available http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_10c4.htm, a comprehensive website on this legal issue, is from the King James Bible: Exodus 20: 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. Guest guest
is anyone else sick and tired of all this political correctness rubbish? Why should anyone be offended by the ten commandments - even if it is not their belief? The UK and the US (despite what politics says) have their roots in Christianity and so we should not feel offended by such things. thats my take on it anyway /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Kulapavana
What is the Hindu View of the Ten Commandments ? that you folks who believe in them should FOLLOW them and not just make a show of your faith. 13 Thou shalt not kill. so why do you keep killing? both men and animals - on a wholesale scale? theist
I am very sick of this PC garbage. These so-called secularists are actually full on anti-God. They should keep their atheism out of the public square not the other way around.
Guest guest
Actually, I find the incessant need to display religious symbolism similar to the homosexual obsession of displaying their sex life for all to see. Two sides of the same coin. One who believes in god can pray at all times, the ten commandments are emblazoned in his heart. A homo who wants to marry another can do so in their own home. The mad displayers of homosexuality and sectarian religiosiity are not necessarily doing it because of strong beliefs. They are doing it to PROVOKE the horrendous discord of this age. The Christian fundamentalist would NOT allow muslim symbolism to be installed, nor hindu symbolism. They want ther tablets displayed as a weapon against all evil, meaning islam and hinduism. The same folks who push fopr public display of ten commandments want to ban halloween, which is a symbol of druidism and wiccanism, two systems that predate christianity, both pantheism philosophies. US was not created by christianity, the constitution was written in rememberance of religious puritanical persecutions of previous home;lands, and was framed specifically to prevent. Freedom from religion is just as protected as freedom to practice religion. Display is always considered bogus, just as the pharasee was criticized by Lord Jesus Christ. He publically displayed his religiosity, but the old lady who simply prayed quietly gave much more of her heart to the Father, as described by Lord Jesus Christ. So, christian fundamentalist fanatics, go back in your church, and homosexuals, go back in your closet. If your true beliefs are held, they are held in a humble manner, not the typical hypocracy of making philosophy that others are forced to follow. The ten commandments were replaced anyway, why doesnt the christian preach lord Jesus command that we love god without reservation and love our neighbor as we love our selves. Love your enemy. If a man steals your shirt, give him yer coat, or is jesus dead and the tribal god bacck on his throne casting his bolts. haribol, ys, mahaksadasa
