At an age when most youngsters in the western world have barely left high school, Israeli teenagers are conscripted into the military. At present many are serving at the front line of one of the world’s most bitter conflicts - and the tensions and pressures that creates are rarely discussed.

Middle East Correspondent Mark Willacy recently gained unique access to young Israeli soldiers, spending time with them as they unwind and socialise away from the brutality of the battlefield, and revealing a side of Israel the rest of the world rarely sees.

‘They have a bad time after they see what they have to see’ says Dr Tina Berkovits, a therapist who works with young Israelis, most of them former soldiers. ‘You have post traumatic syndrome, automatically.’

While Willacy was filming this report, there was a powerful reminder of the dangers young Israelis face. A suicide bomber struck one of the Tel Aviv bars, killing four Israelis, three of them off-duty soldiers.

Hours later, he visited the bar with two soldiers who often drink there.

‘It never ends. It’s close to anybody’ says Matan Kraus, a 19 year old soldier in the Israeli Defence Force. ‘I don’t know one person who hasn’t known one of his family members or friends wasn’t hurt by a suicide bomb or a terrorist act.’

Willacy also visits a so-called ‘Balancing Village’ in Israel, where young Israelis affected by drug addiction and emotional problems are helped to recover - but demand for such programs far exceeds the available places.

‘In my opinion there is not enough space for them’ says Dr Berkavits. ‘If we had more facilities we could put more people in here.’

This show went on to show aproximately 50% maybe more of these kids taking refuge in LSD and ecstacy and trying to escape the whole battle by going to India and getting stoned many are concientious objecters to the war but they have no choice as armed service is compulsory in Israel. So they are resorting to drugs, nightclubs and India for relief.

But he went on his own. His motive is the bucks, because there is no just warfare in this age. Vietnam was the same way, no democracy, no righteous glory, just Command Saigon and the opportunity that the opium fields of the golden triangle had to offer.

So whos thinkin about the war, anyway. we have this electrically charged bio body that the US administration is pretending to protect, despite the hypocracy of bush, who as governor, granted decisions to the LEGAL guardian, that the spouse has ultimate say.

Find an issue to divide the americans, exploit, and conquer. Not iraqis, americans are divided as fodder for conquest.

yes prabhu, poppies in Afghanistan provide a lot of profits too. they grow 100 times more now than under Taliban - ain't freedom grand? lol!

as to your son, at least he went out of his own will - not drafted forcibly and sent to some idiotic war for rich asuras getting even richer.

my son is 16 and has zero desire to fight for Bush&Co. if the draft comes we have our options.

My son is also 16 but at a certain point we relented to PS2 as a compromize for all the other activities we had to come down on as he went thru puberty. Now he's a virtual expert on war and martial arts, but i would hate to imagine him in the real stuff. I'm also not sure of the effect all these years of blowin' the enemy away have had on his consciousness, he appears passive, but every so often the volcano errupts, what to do.

There are some pretty crazy programmers behind these games. They are in a position to program weak-minded kids also.

Jewish kids are very intelligent and talented, I hope they can influence their parents that have hardened in their hatred towards the fanatics all around them.

Whole Nations are manipulated with drugs if you can pacify them with opium the will to fight is stoned out of them.

Plus psychodelics tend to increase affection for your environment, you can't have that if you've got a war to fight now can you? You tend to see others are just like you and that's not acceptable if you've got to take their life away.

Isn’t it a pity

Isn’t it a shame

How we break each other’s hearts

And cause each other pain

How we take each other’s love

Without thinking anymore

Forgetting to give back

Isn’t it a pity

Some things take so long

But how do I explain

When not too many people

Can see we’re all the same

And because of all their tears

Your eyes can’t hope to see

The beauty that surrounds them

Now, isn’t it a pity
