Guest guest
"It goes against the strict Vaisnava principles given by Srila Rupa osvami Prabhupada and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu for devotees to accept formal worship and a high seat, even from their own disciples. This is why Gaudiya Vaisnavas formerly never accepted the position of sannyasa or any formal special status as guru. Gaudiya Vaisnavas practice the principle of ³trinad api sunicena, amanina manadena.² They avoid the official worship and status ordained for sadhus by Vedic tradition. Yet Srila Prabhupada accepted, and even insisted upon, a standard of guru orship unheard of in Vedic history." http://www.vnn.org/editorials/ET9810/ET23-2401.html
Guest guest
Haribol. There are two words here, worship and bhajanti. Bhajanti is worship due only the supreme lord, while we worship the brahmanas, spiritual authorities, superiors, etc. What is incorrect in this statement is that Srila Rupa Goswami has noted in his description of the sadhana bhakti process that the student worships the Spiritual master as via medium of the Supreme Lord. The spiritual master does not accept this worship on his own behalf, assuming that he is worshippable. No, he takes the worship of his disciples in a spirit of Yajna, meaning that he is worshipped as servant of God, not the Supreme Lord Himself. Thus, this worship is not kept unto himself, rather placed at the feet of the Supreme Lord. This "guru puja" is absolutely necessary and required because the disciple has no knowledge of how to place worship on another. Sadhana means practice, and the Guru accepts such practice in lieu of the disciple becoming more spontaneous and able to directly relate to the Supreme Lord (rasa). who wrote this garbage, someone obviously who wants to throw tenets of devotional service out the window just because there are imitators out there. hare krsna, ys, mahaksadasa
Kulapavana
daily guru-puja is neither a Vedic nor a Gaudiya standard, yet - it was introduced by his disciples not SP. true, he did not object, but he knew his disciples needed it. after all, they were a pretty degraded bunch (and they proved it many times). so we continue this practice, out of respect for our beloved Gurudeva. Kulapavana
"daily guru-puja is neither a Vedic nor a Gaudiya standard i have seen it in many gaudya mathas " daily guru-puja to a particular guru? that may be a recent development in Gaudiya mathas. actually, we Gaudiyas do not follow the vedic system of guru-worship, but the one based on the Agamas (Pancharatrika), which some call a tantric system. Pankaja_Dasa
Dandavats Krishna worshipped Brahmana Sudama, that was Fully Vedic! Worship of devotees has been going on since forever. Maybe the 'pomp' has been added for kali-yuga people.
