Kulapavana
"3) Is the GBC responsible to oversee/control the “myth-making” tendencies of the departed guru’s disciples?" where would they start? hopefully with themselves, and the myths THEY created. theist
No need for myths when Gaudiya Vaisnavas have such a wide array of genuinely powerful saints.
Kulapavana
actually, creating wonderous myths does NOT glorify your guru... when you properly understand your guru's position, his struggle to present Krishna consciousness to people in general, and the depth of his love for Krishna and His parts and parcels, THEN you can glorify him properly, with TRUTH, not with some bogus sentimental ideas. Guest guest
Another thing we all should remember is that it is natural for a disciple like Hari das to speak up for his guru. Sure, and Sai Baba followers speak up for him, too. That does not stop us from saying he is bogus or that his followers are misled. I don't understand this sympathy iskcon people have for one of their own who teaches bogus ideas that are reminiscent of the church of scientology. It seems to me that there is selective application of principles, which is something one of the original posters alluded to - when it's a bogus guru outside your sampradaya, you are quick to shoot him down. But when it is one of your own, you are all on pins and needles, ever-so-careful not to hurt the feelings of his cultish followers. It also brings to mind the integrity of the rest of iskcon's leaders, that they don't seem interested in objecting or speaking out against this kind of nonsense. One is lead to the conclusion that iskcon leaders either (a) cannot distinguish philosophy from rubbish, or (b) are unwilling to speak the truth for fear of losing followers. theist
To you apparently all western born people who chant Hare krsna are iskcon. So be it.
