Guest guest
I have a copy of the Puranaanuuru, a Tamil classic from Sangam age. In it, the pronounciation key says that any letter "L" with a line under it is pronounced "ir" as in "sir" Therefore Tamil (with a line under the L::not sure how to type that into here so everyone can see) is actually pronounced Tamir which makes sense. Im malayali and we write 'tamil' but say 'tamir natu', 'tamir bhashya', etc. But the Chola (empire) also has a line under the L. So is Chola supposed to be pronounced Chora? Jahnava Nitai Das
I believe it is the zh letter of Tamil, sometimes written as an L.
