Guest guest
I look at Ganesh based on what I learnt about him when growing up in S. India. He is a fun guy really . Lord Ganesh according to South Indian tradition is supposed to be a child (only in North India he is married and has not one but two wives). As he is a child , we offer him candy ( who can forget the modaks on Ganesh Chathurthi) and so he is easily pleased. Also in the south we have the tradition of holding our ears and doing sit-ups for him just to amuse him. The idea is that he is a small child and do what it takes to keep him in good humor. So I approach Ganesh as one would approach a loving and irresistable child. Not only do I get to enjoy my time with him, but as a bonus he also grants boons easily when he is pleased and smooths my path towards God..... and thats nice ) --- n_mallan <n_mallan wrote: > > >
Guest guest
Latha Nanda, Thanks for sharing this info with us. I've been drawn to Lord Ganesh for many years. There is something adorable about him. Astraea , Latha Nanda <lathananda> wrote: > I look at Ganesh based on what I learnt about him when > growing up in S. India. Guest guest
Astraea, You are most welcome. Maa recommends us to chant the "Ganesh Atharvasirsham" - The highest meaning of Lord Ganesh. This is available in both the Advanced Shiva Puja book as well as in the Ganesh Puja book. FYI. Jai Maa. Guest guest
Namaste, I'm a student of Dr. Vasant Lad and he is very fond of Ganesh. I've been chanting to him for a year and I can't say that the heavens have opened up, but my life is very different than it was a year ago! I'm still looking at the idea, Shivaya Subramaniswami (sp?) said that Lord Ganesh was to be invoked before any other God because he was so gentle. I still chant to him almost every morning and I can say it has helped me and my wife! I try and approach him now mentally with a big platter of Ladu ball in hopes that he will transfer some of the sweatness to me. Jai Ma, justin

Guest guest
Hi Justin! I'm sure chanting to Ganesh everyday has made a difference in your life. Which Ganesha mantras do you use? You're an Ayurveda student! That's great, very useful. I have one of Dr. Lad's books somewhere -- an intro book. Guest guest
Hi Latha, Thanks for the lead, I do have the Ganesh Puja book, I'll have to look up the "Ganesh Atharvasirsham". Guest guest
Astraea, Studying with Dr. Lad was very interesting, Dr. Svoboda said that Ayurveda was never ending, and I must say it is very slippery. The name of the chant in our book is just the prayer to Ganesha and I know it is part of a much longer chant, but ours started out Om Gananam tva ganapatim.... It's not very long, but it's very centering! Justin
