Guest guest
Namaste! Jai Ma! I have just joined the group. I saw Shree Maa and Swamiji when they last came through Washington, D.C. Amazing. I cannot get the experience out of my head. Anyway, I have questions regarding the Chandi recitation: 1) How do you pronounce "phaT" as in "astrAya phaT" Is it with an "f" sound as in "fot" or is it with a "p" sound as in "pot"? 2) Can one start at the beginning of the text, go as far as possible in one sitting, take a break and come back where they left off? Over a period of a week, for example, until the text is finished? 3) Can the navarna vidhih be used as a system of worship all by itself, or must it be recited along with the entire text? Sorry for so many questions right off the bat, but they have been burning in my mind for quite a while. Thanks for any help! AUM
Guest guest
Hi, That's funny, since I was just working on this pronounciation myself this morning. Obviously Swamiji would know best, but I would guess that the PH is as in the Sanskrit word "Phalam", meaning fruit. The character PH is pronounced Pha, and is an aspirated consonant bilabial, it's vocal class. So, it might be more like saying, "pot," more like "phot." Guest guest
HI Sivadancer- Shree Ma and Swamiji are a wonder to behold. I first met them when they toured southern California a few years ago and eagerly wait for them to be able to start touring after they finish the construction at the Devi Mandir ashram. The only question I can answer is the first - the pronuciation of phaT. When I've heard it it sounds like p-hut, but the "a" is a short "a" sound. The "h" seams to add a force to the remainder of the word. Hope this is of some help. Jai Ma Marsha , "sivadancer" <sivadancer> wrote: > Namaste! Jai Ma! I have just joined the group. Guest guest
It's great to see people discussing such a deep subject like the Chandi Path. Swamiji always tells us to sit and chant for as long as the situation will allow us and that we can decide how long and when to do it. I know some people that will chant from the beginning through the Narvarna Vidhih in the morning and, chapter 1-4 in the afternoon and 5 through the end in the evening. Everybody is free to take their own sankalpa (vow of worship). I also asked Swamiji these questions and I will post his response when I get it. Jai Maa , "sivadancer" <sivadancer> wrote: > Namaste!
