Guest guest
namaste, i believe our lives ebb and flow, i, for many years thought jnana to be the path, and i learned much! i learned so much that it made me see that bhakti was a continuation of my learning, my life changed a bit, and i began to become aware of a change in my priorities, if you will, and saw that i was laking in devotion. now i feel a balance, i practice bhakti, but i also continue to seek for wisdom. i would ask for bhakti, it has changed my life. hari om om shanti chandra mani
Guest guest
The first question that comes to mind is that without Light, can one percieve a Jewel? With the absense of light can you perceive a Jewel in the dark? Take your diamonds and turn off your lights, pitch black. Can you see them? It is only thru the Light can we be True Devotee's or Lovers of God. When one is full of Wisdom then surely, they would be wise to be a Devotee too:) Swamiji, we need both. I chose both and my Maa loves me sooo much she will give them both to me. Also, God never leaves us to our own devices, it's impossible and an oxymoron especially after one is a Jnani. As of now, these are my understandings. Good question! Was it a trick question?Sarada <sarada_saraswati > wrote: When the Goddess comes in Chapter 13 of the Chandi and asks what we want, should we ask for Jnana - Wisdom or Bhakti - Devotion? Please read the Discourse on Bhakti and Gyana in Ram's Court at:http://www.shreemaa.org/article29.htmand then make your selection, and tell us why you chose what you did.-- God bless you.Shree Maa and Swami Satyananda Saraswati Devi MandirTo from this group, send an email to:Your use of is subject to the The New with improved product search
Guest guest
Well, everybody seems to be picking devotion, so I will pick Jnana, but not just to be different... I would like to point out that in Yoga Vasishtha, Sage Vasishta told Rama the story of Prahlada and his perfect devotion to Lord Vishnu. This story occured after Prahlada's father was destroyed by Narasimha and now Prahlada is the asura ruler of the underworld. After countless years of perfect worship of the Lord, Vishnu finally appeared to Prahlada and told him to ask for any boon that is conducive to liberation. Prahlada without hesitating said, "Lord you know what is best. You choose the boon for me." Lord Vishnu said, "May you be forever endowed with the spirit of enquiry (the method of Jnana)." And soon after being endowed with the spirit of enquiry, asking the question "Who am I?" Prahlada had the highest realization and was liberated. Well, if Vishnu deemed Jnana to be the boon most conducive to liberation, then I will pick Jnana. Guest guest
Jai Ma! Thank you, Swamiji, for this question. It's a blessing to receive these dharma quizzes from you and Maa... Mother, in Her infinite Grace, has allowed me to cultivate a small measure of bhakti and it has given me a new life. Jnana, discrimination, skepticism are indispensable on any spiritual path and we should pray for these, too, but to me personally the jewel of bhakti is more precious than anything else. Many teachers, including Ramakrishna, remind us that one can advance very far down the path to God and still be at terrible risk of a fall due to spiritual pride. The merest glance at our world today will show you that the cancer of spiritual pride has blighted every religion, every culture to one extent or another. So--Mother, please grant us bhakti and the saving humility that comes from it! HH
