Guest guest
Namaste Swamiji, In Nyasa, what fingers(s) should touch the palm when one chants "kara tala prishtabhyam namah"? I have read it is the pointer finger, that bends forward and touches the palm/mound of the thumb. Is it the same for each person? Thanks in advance, and many offerings of ghee, flowers, gold, and cloth to you and Shree Maa. Guest guest
Namaste, I may be able to answer this one. In our books the mantra is Karaltala kara prishthabhyam astraya phat. The instruction in the Shiva Puja book says roll hand over hand forwards and backwards whil reciting karala kara and backwards while reciting prishthabhyam then clap hands while chanting phat. Whenever I've seen anyone including Maa and Swamiji perform this they start with their hands in front of them flat with the ground, with the right over left, and they roll them forwards and backwards without the hands ever touching. I will ask Swamiji if he knows anyhing else. Guest guest
Namaste, Saradaji, It's a bit hard to visualize. What is the meaning of Nyasa? I have been thinking about it a lot. Especially since the fingers have nadis in them, and are also connected somehow to the planets. So in the sense of the macrocosm/microcosm, when a practitioner "places" the mantra/shakti on the fingers - aren't they also energizing the nadis of the planets also, and getting into the cosmic pranas? Guest guest
It is hard to visualize. I am going to see if we have video footage of Maa or Swamiji doing this particular Nyasa. Nyasa means to establish within. Usually there is a mudra and a mantra that is being established somewhere in the body. I am going to forward the question to Swamiji and let him add to what I have said because he is an authority on the subject. , "Jesse Arana" <jessearana@c...> wrote: > Namaste, Saradaji, > > It's a bit hard to visualize. Guest guest
It is all ok, any sadhana that we wish to perform. When we talk about one asana, we are talking about the best. If you cannot do the best, then do what you can do. Don't give up on sadhana because it is not easy. When lying down and meditating, focus on the breath. , Kelly Leeper <blissnout> wrote: > Sarada, > > Can you ask Swamiji about my situation? In my lifetime I have fallen hard on my hips several times and as I get older, to sit in one asana is difficult because what one would normally tolerate as normal pain to endure in sadhana sitting, I may have more due to injury. > > I was told by a friend who has a jain Guru that he lies down, but I was told by a kriya sadhaka that you can stay in the astral/dream realms if lying down. Is it ok to sit in a chair or sit cross legged on a couch for sadhana? Is it ok to meditate lying down and if so, any advise for lying down meditators? > > Also, I have meditated on my heart and my crown. If I meditate and focus on my heart, I end up slouching over a period of time. If I focus on my crown, I stay straight. Where the mind goes the body follows so to speak. If one is focusing on the heart and they end up slouching when going deep does it make the meditation less effective? I remember walking into a temple where the monks were all slouched over and I thought, 'Are they sleeping?' But then I realized if I focus on my heart, I slouch too. I also enjoy Zazen extremely! Keeping still and gazing down without blinking, just being - How I love that form of meditation, but it's difficult without support of being at a zendo. The environment of practicing zazen with others makes it easier for some reason. If zen monks slouch don't they get the stick? There's got to be a reason for keeping the back straight. > > Any advice?
