Guest guest
Hi I am new to this group and not acquainted with puja and so I'll start with a question: I got the Shiva Puja for beginners and though it is for beginners it still seems rather complicated to me. Nevertheless I'll try to get into it cause I feel rather drawn to ritualistic practices. The question is: If and when I feel like - can I do puja just with incense and lights and without all the other materials? I mean - feeling devotion to ones Ishtadeva seems to be a puja in itself. Or is it considerd inauspicious not performing the puja in the prescribed way and consequently better not perform it at all? Let me add that where I live I have no opportunity to learn puja from somebody who knows. Wishing everyone here all the best A
Guest guest
Jai Maa, The best thing is to use whatever materials you have and take the rest from your heart. Any Puja that you offer Shiva will will surely bear fruit. If you send me an email with your location I can let you know if we know anyone in your area that could meet with you and help you along with the Puja. We have met quite a few people during Shree Maa's five U.S. and European tours. There is also a cd of the beginner Shiva Puja available at www.shreemaa.org. Guest guest
Performing Puja fom your heart is the most potent. Often we can get stuck in the rights and wrong ways of doing puja and then it becomes a mental block because all of a sudden the mind has all these rules and restrictions. Maa is not about restrictions, She just wants your Love and to Love you. At one time I was stuck in rights and wrongs of puja and I became a miserably devotee trying to do it according to the standards of everyone around me. Was that pleasing to my Mother? No, it was creating more distance between me and Her. The fact that you aren't around a puja teacher can be a blessing. However, it may be apart of one's path, rightly so. For those, Maa wanted them to do puja and most likely will do it exceptionally well. I recommend the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, unabridged. Focus on what Ramakrishna did with his Mother and then do that. If there is anyone I can identity with and the irrational passion of loving Mother it's Ramakrishna, temper tantrums and all. Love your Mother with no rules, Just Love Her. (unless you feel compelled to learn puja, but if you are not around a pujari, this can be fustrating. If traditional Puja is for you, I'd move somewhere to learn from a pujari or Guru:) To the forum: I'm not putting Puja down but emphasizing that Maa receives her children without condition. Jai Maa!
