There is an English translation of the Maha Lakshmi Stotram in Linda

Johnsen's book The Living Goddess: Reclaiming the Tradition of the

Mother of the Universe. I have been trying to find more information

about this stotram. Does anyone know more about it? Is it to be

found in any of the Devi Mandir publications? TIA!

Namaste Karen,

This sotram can be found in both the Lakshmi Puja and the Cosmic

Puja books. It's beautifully translated by Swamiji. Hope this

helps!

Hello, Karen,

As Gauri said in her post, you can find this in two D.M publications.

I'm assuming you are referring to the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam?

(The 8 verses in praise of Mahalakshmi)--

I have yet to read this book of Linda Johnson's but I'm ordering it right away.

This is a very "auspicious", as they say, stotram to recite.

That is, in the bhava of love and respect to our Divine Mother in Her

Mahalakshmi aspect, when we recite these 8 verses praising Her, it brings us

Lakshmi's wealth--our true wealth, our real birthright as true human beings.

Swamiji translates "Mahalakshmi" as The Great Goddess of True Wealth--that

translation alone is enough to ponder and get you going, isn't it? Just what

is True Wealth, anyway?

After the 8 verses of Her praise are 4 more verses telling you the fruits, or

results, of your devotional chanting to Her:

-attaining to perfection (for yourself and those you influence)

-being freed from "great sins"

-gaining an "abundance" of wealth and grains---that is, resources

-witnessing the destruction of the Great Ego

Pretty wonderful, as fruits go.

As far as the 8 verses, or stotra, praising Her, each of them are full of

meaning

and beauty to dig into.

I have found that memorizing these 12 verses (in the Sanskrit transliteration)

is a great thing to do, and, as the verses seem to recommend, to chant it three

times a day. You truly will begin to see something, and some things, begin to

happen within you and around you.

It is lovely---She is such fullness!

Jai Mahalakshmi, Victory to Her, our own true wealth.......

Hello, Gauri,

May this find you at best. Thank you for the information about the

stotram. I have the Cosmic Puja on order and it should be here any day

now...maybe even today! How fortunate. I think the Stotram is the hymn

that Shree Maa sings on the file that was put on the only it is

called Sri Mahalakshmi Ashtakam. Thanks again!

Best wishes and warmest regards,

Karen Borak
