Guest guest
Happy New Year, everyone! I don't know much about Dewali; I only know that Ram returned to Ayodhya on Dewali, and that it is the beginning of the Sanskrit New Year, and a Celebration of Light. But I think about Dewali coming right after Kali puja--Kali, she who takes away our Darkness, allowing the light within (our Divinity, our light of wisdom) to shine--in increased wisdom, love and detachment. In the Chandi is the vedic praise to the Night of Duality, which we recite before we recite the 700 verses of Chandi. In this stotram ("Atha Vedoktam Raatri Suuktam") we praise that Maya that gives form, gives individuality (duality), and recognize also that as Darkness leaves, the Dawning Light comes, and we learn to witness the movements of the Divine Mother--this is Wisdom, our Kali, our Mother. She removes the ignorance of separation (thinking, "I am separate from all and everything, just little old me") bringing the Wisdom of unity--She is all, and that includes you and me. When darkness or ignorance is overcome, we return to Ayodhya, as Ram did. Parvati told me Ayodhya means, "place of no war." Peace comes in our realization and surrender to Her, and we return home---what else is there to do but celebrate the light? Happy, happy new year!!
