Guest guest
Dear Fellow Lovers, I just finished reading the excerpt from Swamiji that Sarada posted on Sanskrit and love. Swamiji told us another story, this one from Socrates (The Symposium): Penury (Want) was always destitute, always in need. One day she went to a big party given by Zeus, and there she saw Poros--the god of great excess and plenty, getting quite drunk and enjoying himself enormously, and she, being ever in want, wanted some of that. So she became lovers with Poros for that night, and from their union a son was born, whose name was Eros. Eros was not a god and he was not a man; he was the energy born between the coming together of Too LIttle and Too Much (Penury and Poros)--he was always in want, and he was always so full. He was that energy that moved between humans and gods. Eros, moving constantly between the mundane and the Divine, always desires everlasting, uninterrupted possession of his Beloved. This Eros, this love, is always yearning for that ultimate fulfillment that comes from union with the Beloved--with Our Divine, with God. This love is all that gives life meaning--and here it is that which is born from the union of Want and Excess--Need and Fulfillment. This eros, this power, that is born within us, when directed toward Divine, transforms everything! Especially us. Love takes us toward the truth of ourselves, so very beautiful. Here is Rumi: .....Let the beloved be a hat pulled down firmly on my head. Or drawstrings pulled and tied around my chest. Someone asks, How does love have hands and feet? Love is the sprouting bed for hands and feet. Your father and mother were playing love games. They came together, and you appeared! Don't ask what love can make or do! Look at the colors of the world. The riverwater moving in all rivers at once. The truth that lives in Shams' face.
Guest guest
Dear Nitya, I enjoyed reading the story from Swamiji and your own insight. I am so full, yet in need - something to meditate on. Purnamadaha Purnamidam .... Everything is complete , if you take a part of the fullness, still it continues to stay complete. The part is complete as well as the whole is complete. I am a part of the whole and I am full/complete/perfect. Now if I only I could totally experience that .... Back to Sadhana ... Thanks again Nitya. Guest guest
Dear Latha Aren't Swamiji's stories great? I was thinking about what you said... I believe that when we are so full, yet in need, that that is what it means to be human--because there we are in love; when we are in love with the creation--with God, with the Goddess, then all we can do is to expand, and expand--infinitely-- and in that longing for the Beloved, for the Divine, there we become (or we are always becoming) more and more our true, human selves--perpetually in love, moving towards union with our Beloved. There we grow, evolve, expand and come closer and closer to the Source, to God. There is the meaning of our lives: really, truly, being IN LOVE. Coming ever deeper into our hearts, resting there as well. I believe She shines through us as we love. Please, forgive me if I share another Rumi poem, this could get redundant but oh well, I love Rumi: Lovers of God, sometimes a door opens. and a human being becomes a way for grace to come through....... if you would rise from sleep, leave the market arguing, and learn that your own essence is your wealth. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Dear Nitya, > > I enjoyed reading the story from Swamiji and your own insight. > > I am so full, yet in need - something to meditate on. > > Purnamadaha Purnamidam .... > Everything is complete , if you take a part of the fullness, still it > continues to stay complete.
