Guest guest
Dear Kelly, In a previous message a while back, you asked me what is my favorite part of the scripture of the Shrigurugita. So it has taken me a while to skim back through the 182 verses to discover the part that is particularly meaningful to me. Of course, chanting the whole scripture seems to give me inspiration and a sense of where I should put the priority in my life. And at other times certain verses just stand out as the particular help or advice that I need right then in my life to answer a doubt or clarify some misconception. I think my favorite part is when Shiva is extolling to Parvati all of the qualities of the Guru, and teaching her the actions and attitudes to cultivate in order to become one with the Supreme Divinity. In a serious of shlokas, Shiva is reminding Parvati and us to continually maintain the attitude of bowing down to the Guru (the attitude of humility) in order to have this path illuminated for us by the Guru. Some of my favorite parts in English are: "The Guru is the soul of intelligence; the Guru is He who gives rise to the light by which illumination is known; the water from the Guru's two feet can purify all sin; the Guru is He who applies the ointment of wisdom to eyes that were closed by the darkness of ignorance. the Guru is the one by whose pair of lotus feet the heat of conflict is removed; by the Guru's ocean of compassion, living beings may attain liberation from the diversified world of objects and relationships. And lastly, shlokas #63 & 64 praise the true Guru who lives inside each of us: "I am unborn. I am free from old age. I myself have no beginning and no end. I am the imperishable bliss of consciousness. I am the small and greater that the greatest. Beyond all past, beyond the eternal, I illuminate my own light. I am completely pure, beyond the infinite expanse of ether, eternally fixed in the imperishable bliss". I pray that we all continue to develop devotion to our Gurus. Guest guest
Thank you, my dear sister Kamala, for taking the time to share with us. I LOVE the Gurugita. I probably spend more time with it than with anything else but the pujas. But it reminds me of a conversation that I had with Swamiji one Navaratri. I told him that a particular scripture was my favorite and he quickly answered "they are ALL my favorites." At the time I wondered how they could all be his favorites. Now I understand. When you are in the Eternal and Infinite Moment, whatever worship you are performing is your favorite. Thank you Kamala. Thank you Swamji. We are so blessed to have our Gurus and our beloved Family. Guest guest
Namaste all! I also really love the Guru Gita. Last Guru Poornima we chanted it with Shiva mantra samputs...wow, was THAT amazing.
