Guest guest
In the Kali Puja, does one really have to offer meat and wine to Kali during the homa? What substitute is used? Thank you. Astraea
Guest guest
When we perform the Kali Puja we do use real wine but instead of killing an animal we sacrifice a gourd and offer that to the fire. If you don't want to use real wine, i'm sure grape juice will work fine. Our ego and darkness are the real offerings. Guest guest
Sarada, Thank you for the quick answer. I realize you're telling me the physical offering doesn't really matter, but now my curiosity is aroused. At the Devi Mandir, what kind of gourd is offered? A zucchini? A fat butternut squash? LOL! Guest guest
I'm so happy to hear you use wine. My first teacher taught us to use real wine but then I met up with a Swami who hissed at that, so I'm glad to find that Swamiji and Shree Maa offer wine to Kali. Kali Loves Wine!!! Now, do you sip the prasad? What do you do then? Guest guest
Though I am not a big user or proponent of intoxicants, I would caution against such a blanket statment. I think the only fair thing to decide is if intoxicants inhibit your spiritual growth. How can we speak of another's? Vivekananda used to drink Scotch and smoke cigars. Sombari Baba and Trailinga Swami smoked chillum. Etc, etc. - Arjuna Monday, November 17, 2003 7:20 AM Re: Re: Kali Puja Question Use of all intoxicants inhibits true spiritual growth. I have seen the use of them time and again cloud perceptions long after the initial substance had departed the body. Looking at the energy signatures of persons who use intoxicants, I often see something that most closely resembles the gunk that comes when you clean the trap under the sink. All things certainly are offered to Ma Kali as she can transform them, but unless a person is so developed as to be completely identified with her, their use is dangerous.
