Guest guest
Brahmacharya ( Celibacy)The importance of "Brahmacharya" is clearly explained in Yejurveda. In thismodern life very few only understand this and practice it. All Vedas andother scriptures of Hinduism lay great emphasis regarding Brahmacharya. Invedic period a student is also known as Brahmachari. By preserving theenergy, strength and vitality of mind and various organs one can lead ahappy, energetic and healthy life. The mind will be clear and brain willsuperb for a Brhmachari. It enhances the strength, life span and healthsince it is the mine of all virtues .Brahmacharya is the dam of allpleasures of life and only learned people keep it and their power and lifeincreases and all sickness is destroyed. It is easy to preach and topractice is very difficult. One should try to be always in the company ofnoble people and control their senses as far as possible to get the actualreward of human life. A man is known by the company he keeps. If one alwaysmove in the company of good, learned and noble ones there is no doubt thathe can be one among them one day. Company is contagious and man changes hiscolors accordingly sooner or later. He cannot remain unaffected for longbest company means not only noble people but also good books written bygreat scholars, Sages, Saints, Prophets, Rishis, and Munis. These containvast treasures of wealth and will make one so rich that the worldly richeswould appear very insignificant. One of the verses in YajurVeda state thattaught people who are actually endowed with divine powers should do twothings in this world. One is that they should propagate the teachings ofBrahmacharya and control of senses so that people may become strong andhealthy leading a full vigorous life. Next thing is by education andpractice thereof, they should teach one and all how to develop their innerstrength and power so that people may enjoy their blissful life fully in allrespects. In another verse it is stated that such people who abandon thecompany of bad people and give up all bad evil habits and keep away fromimmoral life increasing their vitality beget good children, they strengthand glorify their race and their country. Brahmacharya will give the power to face and solve any problems as a boatcan ferry people through turbulent waters of the sea. A Brahmachari will beliked and respected in all the societies and meetings. In one verse it isexplained that the age of a boy begins at twenty-sixth year and for a girlit is seventeen and up to this period they should practice Brahmacharya atany cost and can get married. Those who get education following the rules ofBrahmacharya, they shine like sun are quick in all what they do, like a hawkand become the hallmark of respect, enjoying their life skipping like adeer. In the student life it would be better to preserve their vital fluid whichis the life thread, so that they can utilize their energy and strength fortheir education and learning. In vedic period student is imparted with allthe knowledge right from the Earth to the sun and in this way all divinityreside in his body and such students in future will assets to their countryand world. They will have harmony of the head, heart and hand in such a waywhich will be beneficial to the society as a whole. It has been truly saidthat if our hearts are strong, our heads are right in vain. A person withouteducation is beast and a person without Dharma is like a beast.Education and knowledge are like two eyes of a person which enable him tosee things correctly and assess his own position. The purpose of educationis to make man what he ought to be.According to Vedas education on arts and material science is not enough andbecause major portion of achieving perfection can be achieved by studyingspiritual science. The aim of life and education is that we may live a newlife in the realm of self and the creation, with harmony and happiness andwill become virtuous. Every second of the life should be fully utilized sothat there is no room left for idling. It may be noted that "An idle mind isa devil's workshop." Of course relaxation and enjoyment should be therealong with study to keep one fit and fresh and ready to face any challengesof life.If proper education is not given to children parents become enemies sincethey get isolated in society. Teachers should take utmost care forunderstanding to develop good character and affection along with studies. They should be taught that all women are like mother, sister or daughteraccording to their age and they should be protected whenever necessary. In Vedas it is also stated thatNot to earn wealth at the cost of others pain and sufferingIt is not good to be fatigue self too much both physically and mentally.Hard-work is the keystone to virtuous earning with the sweat of one's ownbrow, not by lottery, speculation and gambling.Don't do anything undesirable and harmful to the societyAcquire knowledge which can't be stolen away by thieves than materialwealth.A great scholar of ancient India Sri Pathanjali's in his teachingsexplains the importance of Brahmacharya and it is studied by foreignscholars and one such famous scholarDr. Louis an eminent physician opined that most precious atoms of the bloodenter into the composition of semen (in his book Chastity) . So preservationof semen by practicing continence helps the better development of brain ,body, and mind .Dr. Nicholas says that the best blood in the body goes toform the elements of reproduction in both the sexes .So if anybody wastesemen he is loosing the best part of the blood and he becomes weakphysically and intellegently. If preserved he becomes strong, intellectual, heroic andpowerful.Brahmacharya can be practiced by married people also. Chastity and fidelityare the foundation on which a strong and happy marital relationship standsand should be understood by husband and wife. In Srimad Bhagavatham a holybook of Hinduism it is clearly mentioned that practice of brahmacharya isalso one of the important duties in married life and it is waived only forthe purpose of procreation, austerity, purity, contentment and friendlinesstowards all. (11.18.43)Ancient Rishi of India Pathanjali also says in his Yogasutrathat CONTNENCE IS LIFE AND INCOTINENCE IS EQUAL TO DEATH.LORD SHIVA in the Jnanasamkalani Tantra says that " The wise do not regardtheordinary forms of asceticism as real asceticism. Continence is the highestasceticism. He who is a continent is equal to God.So especially youth in whom the future of our country rests, should practicecelibacy as far as possible to lead the country and countrymen to have aprosperous future. Guest guest
Hello Everyone! Namaste and I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving:) In going thru all these emails (over 250) I read this and have some honest and frank questions: For a woman, we do not have semen. In the sexual act, little is lost. What part of the female reproductive system does our 'good blood' go? Here is another frank question: One can be celebate and occasionally have a dream that creates a bodily function especially in a man. Does this mean he has lost his 'good blood' energy? Is it all about the energy in the semen or does it have more to do with attention? Anyone who is focused on a goal will loose interest in sex (to a certain extent:) For women, I think most of us are unsure if Brahmacharya really pertains to woman like it does a man. We don't have anything leaving our body during the sexual act. When I practiced celebacy, things started to feel dead and the practice was not good for me at all. If I focus on Ma and sadhana and don't think of sex, I feel alive. But to consciously override a natural act can be hazardous to ones health also. It can enforce soceital expectations, morals and puritanical expectations that are not in ones best interest. Certain ethics are neccessary but doing things for the sake of morality to be a 'good' person by overriding a natural sex act seems going against the Goddess. We all came from sex. Can't the that diseasing. I think the main thing is FOCUS on God and let the cards fall where they may. Too much focus on having sex or not having sex is still thinking of sex and not God. But I certainly would love my semen questions answered when it pertains to women. jai Maa! Guest guest
Kelly, I wouldn't place too much emphasis on that concept of blood. Listen or read the lecture Swamiji gave on sexuality. The link is in Astraea's reply to Latha, below. The emphasis there is on energy, not the physical concomitants. Chris , Kelly Leeper <blissnout> wrote: > All, > > Hello Everyone! Guest guest
A joke on Brahmacharya :-) The Pope dies and, naturally, goes to heaven. He's met by the reception committee, and after a whirlwind tour he is told that he can enjoy any of the myriad of recreations available. He decides that he wants to read all of the ancient original text of the Holy Scriptures, so he spends the next eon or so learning the languages. After becoming a linguistic master, he sits down in the library and begins to pour over every version of the Bible, working back from the most recent "Easy Reading" to the original script. All of a sudden there is a scream in the library. The Angels come running in only to find the Pope huddled in his chair, crying to himself, and muttering, "An 'R'! The scribes left out the 'R'." A particularly concerned Angel takes him aside, offering comfort, and asks him what the problem is and what does he mean. After collecting his wits, the Pope sobs again, "It's the letter 'R'. They left out the 'R'. The word was supposed to be CELEBRATE!" , "Chris Kirner" <chriskirner1956> wrote: > Kelly, > > I wouldn't place too much emphasis on that concept of blood.
