Guest guest
Nitya Ma, I had the nagging feeling I've seen the words to the Hanuman Chalisa somewhere. Sure enough the text of the Hanuman Chalisa (in tiny print) is included as part of the Krishna Das "Live On Earth" CD. So it's NOT the Hanuman Chalisa you're quoting. Is this text from the Devi Mandir "Hanuman Puja" book by Swami Satyananda? I have a copy of the book, but I haven't had the chance to read it yet. Guest guest
Namaste, Astraea These quotes are not only from Hanuman Puja, they are also the beginning of all pujas Swamiji has taught us. If you look in the beginning of Chandi Path, Advanced Shiva Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Ganesha Puja, and Hanuman Puja, among others, you will find these words. They set the bhav, so to speak, they make the path for the puja; in some cases the entirety will comprise the whole puja we are offering, as when we chant Chandi: the 700 verses come much later. Usually, at least in all of the texts given to us by Swamiji, this beginning is comprised of: Devata Pranaam Dhyaanam offering of light, incense & camphor gayatri mantra prayer to mala flower offerings to deities Aachamana Sankalpa prayers and invocations prayer for peace It's a beautiful thing to offer this every day; I was so happy to be reminded of what I am saying to God. Guest guest
Namaste Nitya, I see what you did. You took bits & pieces of the intro mantras: "om tat vishnoh paramamm padam sadaa pashyanti suryah diviva chakshura tatam" on page 21, taken from the "Achamana". "om yajjaagrato duramudeti daivam tadu suptasya tathaaivaiti..." is on page 26, taken from the "Sankalpa". Completely confused me. Since you mentioned the Hanuman puja, I assumed these were all from the that. What pages are the other quotes on? I can't find them in the intro mantras. Guest guest
Namaste Nitya, I finally found "payahsvatih pradishah santu mahyam" on Page 14 of the "Aratrikam", but the other two I can't see anywhere in the Hanuman Puja book. It's annoying when this sort of thing happens, I'm probably looking right at it, but just can't see it. "aahamjaani garbbhadhamaa tvamajaasi garbbhadham..." and "...tana maamavatu, tada vaktaaramavatu avatu maam, avatu vaktaaram." This last one really bothers me, because it seems so familiar but I can't place it. Where in the Hanuman book is it? Thank you! Guest guest
Hi Astraea, Sorry about the confusion. The last bits are from the closing prayer, as I mention. You can find closing prayer in several places: in advanced Shiva Puja, in Hanuman puja, Ganesh puja, and Durga puja for example. All of the mantras are from Hanuman puja, too (which I had done that day). The point was, all of these mantras are ones I recite every day, and I was really happy to have their meaning revived for me. jai Maa Nitya , "astraea2003" <astraea2003> wrote: > Namaste Nitya, > I see what you did. Guest guest
Hi Astraea, Your diligence is great! "aahamajaani garbbhadhamaa....." is in the 4th shloka after the sankalpa, last line. In my book its on page 27. "tana maamavatu...." is part of the closing prayer at the end. I have this in the Hanuman puja book on page 175, last shloka at the bottom of the page. Guest guest
Namaste Nitya, How's your foot? Thank you for your help on this. My plan is to read all the Devi Mandir puja books in English first, before attempting to learn the Sanskrit. I am still at the "Saraswati Puja for Children" and am very annoyed that there is NO Saraswati Puja tape to go with the text. Which means that if I attempt a recitation of this puja in Sanskrit, it will be without any idea of it's melody or rhythm -- not to mention the correct pronunciation. This has forced me to use the Savitri Gayatri as a substitute, unless I can find a shorter, simpler Saraswati mantra to use. Guest guest
Dear Mercedes, You can get the tapes/CDs from the Devi Mandir website: www.shreemaa.org. You can order directly from website, or FAX an order, I believe. The tapes or CDs I was referring to were: Beginner Shiva Puja, and Durga Puja. Jai Maa!
