Shloka - Karen's question

Hi Karen,

A shloka or sloka is a short verse (usually in Sanskrit) used to

invoke the Lord's name. It might include a little poetic description

about the God and almost always include a line which translates as "I

bow down to you". In this case the shloka calls Lord Ketu .

When would you want to recite a shloka ? I would say whenever you

need the presence of the specific deity. You might for example recite

a shloka on Lord Ganesh before you begin any new venture as He is the

Remover of All Obstacles.

The shloka can be written in different styles , 24, 32 etc syllables

or more. I dont know very much more about the term itself. Perhaps

more people in the forum can clarify.

I checked the Cosmic Puja book and confirm that the Navagrahan (9

planet) puja is the same as in the Hanuman Puja book. The verse I

wrote down for you earlier is in the Cosmic Puja book , pg 171.

Happy Chanting.

Best wishes,

Latha

Nine Planets and listened to it today with especial attention to the

Ketu mantra. I was fortunate that you wrote it out for me along with

the sloka, which made listening and learning much easier. May I ask

about the word sloka...what does it mean? When does one recite a

sloka?
