Namaste Kamala,

I was looking at Bhagawan Dass' book, "It's Here Now, Are You?" again

and came across the section where he talks about seeing the Blue Dot.

Are people at the Devi Mandir allowed to openly discuss the Blue Dot?

Namaste Latha,

I don't know if I'll get blasted for this here or not.

Despite the fact that in Siddha Yoga we were encouraged to openly

talk about our "paranormal" experiences, I only talked privately

about the "blue dot" with one other SY devotee. This was about 9 or

As an example, while I was doing sewing seva at the South Fallsburg,

NY Siddha Yoga ashram, the topic of the Oakland SY center came up.

The Oakland SY Center was Swami Muktananda's favorite SY

center/ashram in the US. While I was visiting San Francisco in 1987,

I stopped in to see the Bhagawan Nityananda shrine. I took two dozen

gorgeous roses and had the shrine all to myself when I got there. I

did a dunda pranam before the Murti and when I sat up, I was hit in

the chest with a bolt of energy in the middle of the chest (heart

chakra). I was overwhelmed by a feeling of bliss: it was delicious

and I felt that Bhagawan Nityananda had blessed me. (This was very

similar to my experience when I first met Gurumayi in NY, but even

more powerful. Then I felt the energy hit my heart area and radiate

outward, but it was not accompanied by bliss.) So I'm telling this

story to another SY devotee (from the Bay area) and she says to

me, "You need to tell this story so that other people know how

powerful the Oakland Bhagawan Nityananda's murti is."

As a footnote, I have felt a connection with & love for Lord Ganesh

for many years (more than any other Hindu deity). I just recently

found out that Bhagawan Nityananda (died in 1961) was considered an

embodiment/incarnation of Lord Ganesh!!!

Getting back to the blue dot, Bhagawan Das mentioned the blue dot in

his book and wrote that even Jerry Gracia (Grateful Dead) saw it and

it was the source for his creativity & songwriting.

The blue dot appeared in front of me (while I was watching TV) about

two years after I was initiated into Siddha Yoga. I've been seeing

the blue dot (in its various manifestations) for about sixteen years

now. People don't like to talk about it. I don't have

any "attainments" that I know of! And I don't know what it really

means (if anything of spiritual significance). I do know that Western

occultists consider the etheric light to be blue. The Hindus consider

the Akashic light to be blue.

I don't see it as often as I used to and it's changed in character

over the years. What reminded me of it (besides the Bhagawan Dass

book) was that I saw it again last week while I was washing dishes. I

don't have any control over it.

So are we allowed to talk about this? What does it mean? If anyone

else has experienced this, please email me off-list. Thank you.

Dear Astraea,

In your understanding of this, first, what is it about this that would make you

wonder if people at the Devi mandir shouldn't openly discuss ? Is there

something that seems forbidden?

and second, what did you want to share, can you say?

It sounds like something impressed you that you read.

Mostly, though, Shree Maa and Swamiji often advise that it's not generally

a good practice to share one's own spiritual experiences openly, as

something sacred that was given to you might be lost in the telling.

Discrimination seems a good way to go with most things, especially like this;

our tradition is devotional, but it's also about knowledge.

Do you think there is something here, though that you might want to

share in a general way?

Namaste Astraea,

IMO, if your experience has helped you grow in some way that is what

counts.

If your sharing helps even one person, even if that person is

yourself, that is what counts.

Thank you for your willingness to share.

As you mention your affection for Lord Ganesh, I hope you get a

chance to check out "The highest meaning of Lord Ganesh" - the Ganesh

Atharvasirsham in the Ganesh Puja book. I am sure you will love it.

With love,

Latha

Astraea,

It will require someone more advanced than I to tell you with

authority what the blue dot is, but I will share what I can.

I used to experience something like what you have described near the

beginning of my yoga practice. If it is the same, it is a beautiful

scintillating blue, absolutely clear and pure, the color of the first

stage of twilight, just after the sun has gone down, in a sky free of

clouds. It is a circle surrounded by a gold or yellow border.

Depending how concentrated and steady the mind is, the circle grows

larger or smaller, and the border fluctuates in shape.

It has been some years since I experienced this regularly. I now see

it only rarely. Almost thirty years ago I was given an experience

that I believe took place in the astral. That color of blue figured

prominently in that experience.

In the tradition of P. Yogananda, according to Swami Kriyananda, this

blue dot is used as a focus for meditation. They visualize within it

a five-pointed, white star. It is said that when the consciousness is

absorbed in the star, samadhi results.

Vishuddha chakra is sometimes (though Swami Satyananda of Bihar says

it is described as dark grey, but often experienced as purple)

depicted as a blue circle (of the hue I have described), surrounded

by a yellow or gold border. As you may know, vishuddha is the chakra

whose element is akasha, or ether.

It is my belief that my experiences of the blue dot, because of the

kind of breathing I was doing then, and some of my other practices

then, was visualization of vishuddha chakra through ajna chakra.

However, it could be an experience of anahata through ajna. I don't

really know.

Hi,

Not sure if I'm talikng about the same thing, but I've seen blue

dots before also. They are like tiny, tiny bright blue points of light

that flit around in my field of vision from time to time. This is

different from seeing the pranamaya kosha which is like seeing

many, many of these dots swirling about you at once. Anyone

can see the pranamaya kosha under certain circumstances

(more on this another time). Rather, the single nila-bindu seems

to be sentient, almost playful. When you try to focus your gaze on

it, it seems to playfully move out of your direct vision. I have seen

it anywhere and anytime from doing my chanting, to driving, to

being on the toilet, to even when I surf on certain websites. There

doesn't seem to be any pattern to its appearance and there is no

effect on me from seeing it rather than, "Wow, that was cool!"

My own theory of the blue dots is that it is actually astral beings

or otherwise who come to visit...somehow they get attracted to

whatever you are doing and then they make their presence

known. Either that or they are yogis who have the power of

"anima" or becoming as small as an atom and going anywhere

in the universe as they please. However, I throw this theory out

because there is no reason why such yogis would want to visit

me. Seriously. Anyway, the first theory that they are regular astral

entities makes more sense to me because of two things. First,

when my father was in the hospital for surgery and I was by his

bedside, I saw many of these blue dots come around, one after

the other. Also on All Souls Day, or Halloween, when the veil

between the physical world and the astral world is the thinnest, I

also saw many of the dots. Therefore, I can only hypothesize that

the blue dots are astral beings, maybe ghosts, the recently

deceased, or something else. I don't really know for sure, but I

also just wanted to share.

Dear Astraea,

It is a free country and I am certainly in no position to blast

anyone :))

The Ganesh Atharvasirsham starts on Page 34 of the Ganesh Puja book.

It is a very powerful piece of poetry and is chanted by some of the

Devi Mandir family everyday.

With best wishes,
