Guest guest
Greetings Everyone, Parvati and I were talking, and trying to understand why some people have fear around chanting mantras, and chanting "correctly". What are other teachers, pundits, and groups teaching about this that may leave some of us hesitant? Anyway, I thought that I would suggest this: Our Swamiji advises us to add the chanting of the "kshama prarthana" (the Prayer for Forgiveness) at the end of all of our chanting. He calls it the "errors and omissions clause" for our sadhana. This prayer is found near the back of the Chandi Path text from Devi Mandir Publications, and I'll include the English text for you. I've found it to be a very sincere and meaningful addition to every attempt at chanting Sanskrit in the performance of sadhana: "Continually I commit thousands of mistakes, Oh Supreme Goddess, but understanding that I am only trying to serve you, please forgive them all. I don't know how to welcome you, nor do I know how to say goodbye. I don't know how to worship you, Oh Supreme Goddess, please forgive me. Oh Empress of the Gods, I know nothing of mantras. I don't know the ways of righteous conduct. I am devoid of devotion. But Oh my Goddess, please be satisfied with my worship, and let it be complete. One who commits a hundred faults, yet calls for the Mother of the Perceivable Universe, neither Brahma nor the other Gods can rise to the upliftment that is received. Oh Mother of the Universe, I am guilty of error, and I take refuge in you. I am worthy of compassion. Do as you will. Oh Goddess, whatever performance that was committed through ignorance, forgetfulness, or confusion, all of that, Oh Supreme Goddess, please forgive, oh may you be so gracious! Oh Ruler of Desire, Mother of Existence, Embodiment of Truth- Consciousness-Bliss, please accept this offering with love. Oh Supreme Divinity, be pleased. Oh Goddess, you are the protector of the most secret of mystical secrets. Please accept the recitation that I have offered, and grant to me the attainment of perfection. Om." Guest guest
When one can know God is entirely Love, there is no need for worries or asking God for forgiveness when you've just prayed to God with Her name. Picture this. The child says, "ma ma.. maaaa. mommy, I miss you, I want you....maa!" and then all of a sudden says, "Oh Ma, please forgive me if I calling for you wrongly." Why are we so worried? The only thing is that an angry God is at the root of the belief system which is not the truth. We are taught this angry God concept and spend the rest of our lives healing it trying so hard to beleive that God is loving. Like Latha Nanda's posts, love will come when it has to??? LOVE WILL COME WHEN YOU LET IT. The very act of stating Her name is all fogiveness. Asking forgiveness for forgivness? Talk about guilt. The only time we could honestly say, 'sorry and forgive me' is if we feel a strong feeling of being 'wrong', and the root of that is how we were raised. There's no common sense in asking forgiveness for calling out Her name. She's our Mother. Every moment and breath is Hers, your chants are Her chants and all is perfect. Jai Maa! Guest guest
Kelly, I bow to you. I really really wish that I could say that love would come over me if I only let it happen . I wish I were that tuned, but the truth is I am not there yet. At this point, it has to happen inspite of me and will happen in its own sweet time . And that post reflected only my subjective experience and thoughts , definitely not the universal truth. Guest guest
Discussion is not on Angry or loving God. Love or anger is based on human perceptions and God is beyond this!! Discussion is on proper use of any gadget. You play with an AK 47 without knowing how to operate it and the result can very well be imagined. Yes, mantra is also like a powerful implement and there is a set procedure. As medicine acts on your body whether you know the mechanism of its working, mantras also act and whetheryou believe it or not, mantras have an effect on your constitution and you acquire the power (the potency varies) and both these effects can easily lead one astray. Caution is the watchword and God' love or anger is not connected with it. The child listens to the wisdom of the mother when she asks it not to play with fire. This is simple knowledge and has nothing to do with love or anger of mother. balaraviKelly Leeper <blissnout > wrote: The whole basis of this topic is a belief that God is an angry and punishing God. Guest guest
This is Exactly what I have just discovered recently! Beautifully put. Infact I just wrote about this and realized I could write my own devotion to Goddess, my own 1000 names essentially, that would come right from my heart, and the Goddess met with me through it. Very powerful. I would suggest it. How do you experience the Goddess personally. Write about it and pray it with your heart. It was a very beautiful. She is right here for us, so close. Guest guest
You should see the wonderful of Santoshi Maa at the Devi Mandir. I was there for the ceremony when Swamiji breathed life into Her. It was magnificent! Guest guest
Somehow I left out the word "murti" in my message. Yes, she is a statue that arrived from India to the Mandir. I believe all the murtis from India are painted marble. She is very different from all the other Goddesses I have seen. She has very big dark deep eyes. Somehow she looks "modern", like she belongs in this time, not a historical figure. When Swamiji was performing the ceremony to breathe life into Her, he got choked up and had to stop for a few seconds. Then he said something like "Mother, I can barely stand to look into your eyes. There is so much Love there." Before he said this, I kept on hearing a voice saying "I am Santoshi Maa and I love you Swamiji" over and over again like japa. It was as though the voice was coming from inside of my heart. After the ceremony, although surrounded by many people leaving the temple, all I could do was bow down and surrender. When I looked up Shree Maa was smiling at me. I felt Shree Maa's awareness of all that had taken place. Love to you, Ardis "turtle dragon" <turtledragonscove > Sun, 14 Dec 2003 21:28:29 -0000 Re: Fear around Chanting Mantras Correctly Please tell me more. This is a statue? Guest guest
Wow! That's great! We could sure use Santoshi Ma right now. I do feel the Goddesses call to us, right in our own space, right where we are. I don't believe they are waiting for us to do japa anymore,(that is for our own benefit) so many people in this kali ma age are clueless so many only know how to offer a prayer from the heart, and that is all that is needed. I don't think they are waiting for us to recite a certain prayer correctly. I feel that the Goddesses are So Close they are just waiting for us to look up and see them standing there right in front of us. It is an amazing time! I feel compelled to share this little song that was given, and I keep the thought in my heart, because she is right here and I feel like here is a place where people understand that. Jai Santoshi Ma! -td I asked, "Do I need to travel, What books do I need to read, What sacred tongue do I learn to speak, to find the secret mystery What language, What chants, What dances do I dance What mantras What myths To connect with her sacred kiss. Chorus: She is Right Here Right in my very own back yard She is Right Here Right in my Very Own Heart She said You do not need to travel For I live within your soul The prayer in your heart, is all you need to speak, to find the sacred mystery- My spirit is in the flowers, My sweet breath on the wind, When you move from a state of bliss- You connect- with my sacred kiss. Chorus: I am Right Here Right in your very own back yard I am Right Here Right in your Very Own Heart , Ardis Jackson <anandamama@e...> wrote: > Somehow I left out the word "murti" in my message. Guest guest
I love your song. It is sooooo true. After traveling to India, Nepal and Sikkim on a three month pilgrimage in the spring of 1992, I returned to the Bay Area without a guru. In the spring of 1993, I was led to a small goddess temple in Martinez, CA, a half hour drive from my home. This was Shree Maa and Swamiji's home. "Right in my back yard". It turned out that Shree Maa and Swamiji were in India with a small group of their devotees at the same time I was there, but I had to come "home" to meet them. When we can each look up and see the Goddess in front of us, in every face, in every tree, in every rock, we will truly be "home". As Shree Maa and Sarada Devi say "Make the Universe your home". Ardis "turtle dragon" <turtledragonscove > Mon, 15 Dec 2003 15:27:36 -0000 Re: Fear around Chanting Mantras Correctly Wow! That's great! We could sure use Santoshi Ma right now. Guest guest
Ardis, So cool. I keep having to remind myself. It's funny. I feel lonely, disconnected, and start looking for what is the problem, why do I feel this way, what do I do, etc. etc. I get too caught up in other's feelings, sometimes feelings towards me, sometimes just their feelings that have nothing to do with me. Then I just have to stop all that, realize that I'm not going to find what I need in this physical world by searching around here and just turn my focus to the Goddess. Then she always gives me what I need. At least I'm remembering that sooner and sooner instead of getting caught up in things I can't 'fix'. Listening to some of the Gita teachings from the website. Very interesting. -td , Ardis Jackson <anandamama@e...> wrote: > I love your song.
