Guest guest
Namaste, I have taken up an assignment to do the Ganesh Puja for a coworker. I did some homework yday and have a lot of questions. I understand that the bhav is more important but I also want some technical details ironed out. 1) The Sankalpa :- what is the sanskrit equivalent of "I am doing this puja for the welfare of A,B,C or A's family" 2) Tying the thread :- Is any thread good enough ? And can it be tied in anyway? I know that Swamiji has a particular technique to do it . And the thread has to be tied to the person(s) for whom I am doing the puja for correct ? Or on myself ? 3) The offerings :- Should I offer or should I get the person to offer? In short, where should I do the puja and where should I get the others to participate? 4) Anything specific to remember for Ganesh ? I remember red flowers ... what else? Can someone help ? I am planning to do this tomorrow morning at 8 am, and am woefully underprepared. (working on the bhav part tho). Thanks very much. Guest guest
Latha, I'm very novice, but I know some stuff about energy, so this is my stab at an answer. Push aside your synicism and self doubt and remember that you are the goddess made manifest right here and RIGHT NOW. The bhav is the most important thing because it creates the framework to which the consciousness travels and which the energy envelopes. If Swamiji doesn't reply with the Sancrit in time, then say the intention in English or Hindi or what ever language feels comfortable. During that moment, keep your thoughts and your feelings focused on the intent and then keep that intent in your heart and mind during the rest of the Puja. Imagine Shree Maa is sitting where you are and imagine what she would do in your place. Ask her for help now and then in your heart and in your mind. She will come. She always does. For myself I have found that when I do the puja caring too much about how I sound, what I'm doing, or how I'm doing, I do myself and the God / Goddess a disservice. I think it is far more important to relax and enjoy yourself. RamaKrishna danced around the goddess for years (often when no one else could see her) and during those moments not a thought existed except the goddess, and the only feelings he felt were those of devotion and love for her. If your mind is not properly centered on the consciousness or energy of worship then you cheat yourself of the darshan. So relax and watch yourself do the puja and constantly invite Maa to come and take over your body to do the worship as only she can. These are just my opinions and I offer them only as food for thought. *hugs* Brian Latha Nanda <lathananda Dec 3, 2003 11:23 AM Doing Ganesh Puja for a friend- HELP !! Guest guest
Brian, I agree with you - the BHAV is everything. Small problem - doing this for a coworker and she has already given me some strange looks although she was open enough to the idea. I'd rather not have a Ramakrishna happen to me (dance in front of her idol in kitchen ) and she report it to the entire office .... you know, the snickers and whispers and sly looks. Not that I would get into that kind of a bhav, but would rather be thought of as cool to be doing a puja. I gotta work and face this coworker everyday so .... I am going a bit easy on the Bhav bit. Kidding apart, I WILL give it my all , my best.... and Gawd help me and my job if I go into a trance.
