Guest guest
Jai Maa everyone We finished discussion of chapter one from Chandi pathah tonight. I left my notes there, but what I remember most at this late hour is the lap of Vishnu. After Brahma sings his song of praise to the Divine Mother (which is truly impossible, since She is everything, how can a song be sung in Her praise? but he sings Her names, her forms, her functions, he sings with awe and devotion)....after he sings to Her, She (the unmanifest existence), manifests through all the jnanindriyas (eyes, mouth, nose, heart, and arms), and awakens Consciousness (Vishnu) from yoganidra, from the divine sleep of union. Vishnu begins battle with Too Much and Too Little, which goes on for a long, long, long time...they are "frenzied" by the delusion of Maya, and finally, arrogantly, tell Vishnu to ask a boon from them. So, of course, he says, "well then I will kill you now, what else?" Since they were fooled, they then say, "OK, but you can only kill us in a place where there is no desire." You see, they saw that the whole gross world was steeped in desire, and thought to escape. Vishnu obliges with "Let it be so" and he brings them into his lap, and with his discus of revolving time, he cuts off their heads. So, that is, with patience, perseverence, dedication, in time, he brings them into the place of stillness, and severing their heads, effectively puts them in balance. This drama--this cosmic drama, and our individual and collective drama, this pattern and evolution, happen over and over and over, but again with our praise and love, our patience and dedication, we come into that place of perfect stillness where there is neither Too much nor Too little. When we fall completely in love, our love takes us there, in time. Swamiji says that when Mother goes to sleep, she goes to "sleep in the lap of Vishnu." So beautiful! good night and sweet sleep! Guest guest
Dear Nitya, Such a beautiful interpretation. In the Introduction to the Chandi , Swamiji explains the significance of the various weapons used ."It is the qualities and characteristics of spiritual discipline symbolized in these words which is relevant, more so than the question of woth what physical weapon did She strike. Hence these words will take significance in the individual meditations of the seeker , and their definitions will change with growth, development and progress along the path". It is mentioned "the discus of revolving time" but I really never put it altogether. Reading your commentary made it so clear and simple. Again the "Common Sense of Chandi". Thank you Thank you Thank you.
