Guest guest
Namaste, Everyone, Last night Shree Maa was reading & Swamiji was translating from M's diary of Ramakrishna. Ramakrishna was talking about faith. He said that if you don't have faith like a child, then you can't get to God. In seeing the form of the faith of a child, God has compassion. The question being discussed was how could God incarnate as a human being, how was this possible? Ramakrishna then talked about faith. He also gave several analogies with cows. If a cow eats from various sources of food, to doesn't give good milk; if a cow is eating here & there, it is not the right food. Or: if a cow moves all over the place, the milk it gives splashes here & there, but if a cow stays in one place it give a fine stream of milk. Have the faith of a child! As long as you have faith, then your wisdom will increase--from this child faith comes great wisdom, not from cleverness nor intellectual understanding. The incarnation of God cannot be found explained in science books, one must believe the statements of great souls who have realized God. Guest guest
A child holds on to the Mother's hand fully knowing she has utmost love for him/her and she will do any sacrifice to protect the child. The child unconsciously avoids having a similar faith in any other human. Only mother is automatically chosen. Similarly humans are free to choose their deity and cocentrate on one form and stick to that form. One should feel the Presence of the form every second by one's side, not merely in a temple or puja room but everywhere. Then what we do becomes His/Her Deed and we live in His/Her Presence happily in full bliss. balaravinitya_ma <nitya_ma > wrote: Namaste, Everyone,Last night Shree Maa was reading & Swamiji was translatingfrom M's diary of Ramakrishna.Ramakrishna was talking about faith. Guest guest
Dear List, One of the texts that has been so important to me is the "Jnaneshwari" (Poet-saint Jnaneshwar's commentary on the Bhagavad Gita..the commentary was orginally written in 1290 and has been translated by a number of people). In the 12th Chapter, entitled "The Yoga of Devotion", the text reads (trans.):"if you are incapable even of practice, be intent on My work; even performing actions for My sake, you shall attain perfection". Jnaneshwar comments: "Realize that only the supreme Self, by whom the whole universe is created, knows what is to be done and what is not to be done" and, also, "Whatever action you perform, surrender it wholeheartedly to Me and do not consider whether it is great or small"..but, most of all...this commentary, "Your life should be conducted like the water which flows quietly in the channel made for it by the gardener". I have contemplated this last commentary so many times as I tried to let go of "doing" my life and allow myself to take refuge in the understanding that, without my trying to run things, life would unfold as it should. Faith, to me, means really believing, accepting and TAKING REFUGE in the awareness that the supreme Self is "doing my life" not me. It has become an answer to questions such as "how much practice "should" I be doing? How "should" I resolve this or that issue? How "should" I balance action and contemplation? etc. Having Faith in the "gardener" requires a different approach...instead of thinking or trying to figure it out or taking someone else's word for it, Faith requires us to sit quietly and listen to what appears out of the Silence. It teaches us to attune ourselves to what seems to be moving in our lives, to stop questioning the unfolding of our karmas so much, to be open to the constant presence of Grace, to learn to listen to the Wisdom arising from within us. Having Faith that we ARE manifestations of Supreme Consciousness and that That is within US, not "outside" somewhere, something that "someday" we will "attain". With this Faith, sadhana becomes simply a way of removing the veils that cover the Truth. sadhvi
