Guest guest
I was listening to Swami chant the Rudrastadhyayi and I was wondering what style of chanting is he employing? Is it a Vedic style or something altogether new? The Vedas have been traditionally passed down for generations in virtually the same form for thousands of years and there are EXTREMELY important reasons why they are chanted with their particular swaras and chandas. Changing even one rising or falling note will change the meaning of a mantra and even have disatrous effects. Or maybe it's all about the bhava and intention behind the chanting? If so, is it therefore the case that anyone can chant anything, any way they want, as long as they have the right feeling? Please forgive me if my question seems impertinent or uniformed; there is no intention of that. It was just a burning question that has been on my mind for a while and was needing to be asked. Guest guest
Namaste, No matter what you say or how you say, Intention makes that complete and in spiritual matters Intention or Bhava is the Only Way! In past, whenever I heard accurate (?) vedic style chanting gave me pleasure but definately pushed me away from it because I couldn't say it myself. But when I heard lots of non-indians chant or sing, that melt my heart away with devotion and was very soothing / encouraging .... I could start also ... and slowly started to learn the meaning of true Bhava. So personally don't get too much hung up on tradional stuff. Sometimes when I didn't remember shlokas I composed my own prayer in any language I could think of ... that was good enough for time being to put me in right mood of Prayer. It's the Bhava/shabda/naam/intention that makes world go around.
