ILLUMINATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS

An introduction to Swami Satyananda's books by Shree Maa

http://www.shreemaa.org/bookstore.htm

Human birth is the greatest birth. Human beings have the capacity to

illuminate consciousness. The illumination of consciousness creates

the functions of creation, preservation, dissolution. Because of the

illumination of that pure consciousness and the protection of

creation, Brahma has created the Vedas.

The wisdom of the Vedas does not admit to distinctions of birth or

race. There is no distinction as to religious beliefs. In olden days

the seers of wisdom illuminated the scriptures without prejudice to

distinctions of birth or race.

When humanity will feel the wisdom of the Vedas and live in

accordance with their teachings, then all human beings will believe

that they are parts of one universal family.

That is why the Vedas, scriptures, and other writings of wisdom have

been illuminated for the benefit of humanity.

Oh My Beloved Universal family, study the inner meanings of the

Vedic scriptures, and feel the inherent wisdom within, and

illuminate your own consciousness.

Within human beings is the illumination of various energies. Each

individual energy has its own form and its own illumination. The

great seers of wisdom have said, "Pu means merit, and Ja means to

give birth." Puja is the action which gives birth to merit.

The great seers of wisdom have explained various ways to conduct

worship in order to illuminate truth-consciousness-bliss. For

example, Kali, Durga, Saraswati, Lakshmi, various deities when

worship in different ways, can give statement to various energies.

By worshipping the deities with form, the great seers of wisdom and

aspirants have arrived at the contemplation of the formless.

In the Sanskrit language every letter has an illumination of meaning

in the gross, subtle and causal bodies. When we worship with

Sanskrit mantras with faith and devotion, we awaken that energy and

truth-consciousness-bliss.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati has written translations of many

different systems of worship for the upliftment of humanity.

All the Gods and Goddesses give us various energies and forms. For

example, Durga Puja destroys all obstacles. Kali Puja illuminates

all darkness. Lakshmi takes us to our goals. Saraswati gives us

wisdom. Vishnu gives us strength and protection. Shiva illuminates

truth-consciousness-bliss.

All of these forms of worship illuminate the highest virtues of

humanity. This wisdom has no distinction as to race or belief. They

only speak of the highest attainment of mankind.

Swamiji's Books:

Swamiji's books give us beautiful knowledge about ourselves. When we

really try to learn true knowledge, division will never come and we

will feel that we are one family on this earth. Pure knowledge

always brings peace. Knowledge has no caste nor division.

Chandi Path

Chandi is She Who Tears Apart Thoughts. She balances our qualities

of Too Much and Too Little, slays the Great Ego, eliminates Self-

deprecation and Self-conceit and many other negative thoughts. The

whole Chandi is about us. It shows us how to have pure consciousness

as human beings.

Bhagavad Gita

In the Bhagvad Gita, we find that yoga is the union of the

individual soul with the Divine Spirit. The Gita offers an

explanation of all different forms of yoga, karma, gyan, bhakti and

others. In the study of this book, we find the knowledge of how we

can become perfect human beings through the practice of yoga.

Devi Gita

The Devi Gita scripture shows us how to keep Pure Energy, Prakriti,

with us at all times. It gives detailed explanations of the

practices necessary to achieve this state.

Swami Purana

The stories of the Swami Purana originate from the Vedas and

Upanishads and provide an anthology of wisdom of the Sanatana

Dharma, the Eternal Ideal of Perfection. Swamiji gives the classical

stories a modern day explanation. All the stories are fun to read

for adults and children.

Sundar Kanda

The Sundar Kanda is the Beautiful Chapter of the Ramayana. It is the

story of a perfect King, a perfect wife, a perfect brother, the

perfect servant and the perfect devotee.

Guru and Goddess

The Guru and Goddess is comprised of three works: the Kasyapa

Sutras, Guru Gita and the Lalita Trishati Stotram. The first section

is a translation of the Kasyapa Sutras and is accompanied by a

commentary which shows us how to practically apply these principles

in our lives. In the Guru Gita, we learn what is the meaning of the

relationship between a guru and disciple. As we study and chant this

scripture, we come to manifest the heart of a true devotee and

experience in our own lives, the Infinite Divinity which resides in

all of Creation. The third part of the book is a translation of the

Lalita Trishati Stotram which gives the definitions of the Sri Vidya

Mantra and the Sri Chakra Yantra, and gives an exposition of the 300

names of the Beloved Mother called Lalita. These three teachings

offer both an intellectual understanding, and a means to expand

one's devotional practice.

Rudrastadhyayi

The Rudrastadhyayi emanates from the Sukla Yajur Veda, the oldest

statement of spiritual wisdom known to mankind. It celebrates Siva,

the Consciousness of Infinite Goodness, in His form as the Reliever

of Sufferings. When you realize the knowledge of Rudrastadhyayi, you

will then know that we are one with everything.
