Guest guest
I posed this question on the 108/1008 names to Swamiji and got his response. I wanted to share it with the forum What is the significance of the 1008 names or 108 names of any God/Goddess ? Response from Swamiji :- Every vibration in existence is a name of God. And they are all at least ever so slightly or some what different. Even still, the rishis cognized specific names, indicating special attributes that they wanted to describe as intrinsic to that form of divinity. All these thousand names have found homes in the Puranas, like Shiva Purana, Padma Purana, Vishnu Purana, Devi Bhagavatam, etc. So we study and recite the names, qualities, attributes, feelings what are particular to each form of deity so that we can inculcate them into our being. Guest guest
Dear Latha (and all in this list) Namah Shivaya. Excuse me.... I have a question, but let me introduce myself first, as this is my first post. My name is Manoj, and I joined this list a week ago upon receiving an invitation in my e-mail (I don't know who invited me, but I am glad I was!). I am very happy to see the activity in this egroup, and am especially happy to see so many posts on the Chandi. Thank you very much. God bless you all. Now to my question. I understand the 108 names, but what is the 1008 names? I think that should be the 1000 names. An example of the 108 is the Lalita Ashtottara, and of the 1000 is the Lalita Sahasranamam. I do not have a 1008 equivalent. what is this? Please enlighten me. Jai Ma! , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > I posed this question on the 108/1008 names to Swamiji and got his > response. Guest guest
Namaste Manoj, Welcome to the group. It is wonderful to have another fellow-lover of the Goddess join the gang. As far as 1000 vs 1008 names, you put up a good question. While Vishnu sahasranam has 1000 names, Kali,Siva,Lakshmi etc have 1008. I dont know if the Lalita Sahasranam has 1000 or 1008 names. I can check in a couple of days when I get hold of the book. Great to have you. Keep the ideas and questions coming Best wishes Latha -- In , "manoj_menon" <manoj_menon> wrote: > Dear Latha (and all in this list) > > Namah Shivaya. > > Excuse me....
