Guest guest
Jai Maa! Namaste all. Is it better to focus on one Diety at a time or to worship several at once? Would you do more than one puja a day? Would you different pujas on different days? Would I need a different mala for japa for Durga and japa for Shiva? Thank you, Leon
Guest guest
Jai Maa, I do the Samasti Upasana (Cosmic Puja) everyday which worships at least 50 different forms of Divinity. It mostly focuses on Durga but there are small Pujas for Kali, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Surya, Ganesh, Nava Graha, the 64 Yoginis, and many more. So when I do the Puja I focus on each Diety but also on the Divinity that dwells in all of them. They are all expressions of the same thing. Many people perform more than one Puja a day and we try to do as much as our daily routine will allow. In the Chandi Path it says that four times are recomended for Sri Vidya meditators. Certainly you can use the same mala for japa of any Mantra. I personally haven't met anyone who has a seperate mala for different Dieties. You can do different Pujas for different Dieties. Monday is auspicious for Shiva. Tuesday for Hanuman, ect. , "Leon" <leonusamongus@a...> wrote: > Jai Maa! > > Namaste all. > Is it better to focus on one Diety at a time or to worship several at > once? Guest guest
Namaste Leon, As far as puja goes, we have a smorgasbord of choices . Any puja to suit any frame of mind. You can worship God as Ganesh to remove obstacles, or as Lakshmi to define your goals, or as Saraswati to increase your wisdom or as Durga to remove fear and confusion or my favorite as Rudra(shiva) the remover or tears (Rudra is derived from asru-trayate - the removal of tears). You can try any or all to see which aspect you are drawn to. Any God to suit any mental state or block. If you are trying to begin or setup a practice of puja, I would recommend you start with either the Beginner Shiva Puja or the Beginner Durga Puja, both available as books and CDs with the mantras chanted in the divine voices of Shree Maa and Swamiji. One mala is adequate for all japa. You could use a rudraksh or crystal or tulsi beads - your choice. Best Wishes, Latha , "Leon" <leonusamongus@a...> wrote: > Jai Maa! > > Namaste all. > Is it better to focus on one Diety at a time or to worship several at > once? Guest guest
Jai Maa! Namaste and happy New Year to you all! Dear Swamiji & Lathananda, thank you for your responses. I'm reading "Before Becoming This" and reached the chapters on puja the night after my original post, I had to laugh! I've been working on doing the Durga Puja every morning. I have the Beginner's pujas for Shiva and Durga from the Martinez temple. They were gifts from a friend many years ago. After your responses I've picked up the Shiva Puja and started reading it, I'm considering starting puja to Shiva as well. Kali is my first love and I've been worshipping her in my small way for a while. Just before I found this group I had the strong urge to start worshipping Her as Durga. I felt odd at first, almost like I was cheating on Mother kali, which is what prompted my post. I don't feel strange about it anymore, thank you very much! Love from Leon Jai Maa!
