Guest guest
Jai Maa! Namaste all. Get ready for some questions,... When doing the Beginner's Shiva Puja, are we supposed to chant the entire booklet including the Chailisa? When we sprinkle water over the offerings and chant "amritam kuru svaha" are we dipping the water out of the pot on the yantra? Or out of the pot of water we used to fill the pot on the yantra? Are these questions answered in the "Meaning and Method of Worship" video from the Mandir? If not, is there anywhere that demonstrates visually how to do a puja from the ground up? Thank you all! Jai Maa! Love from Leon
Guest guest
Namaste Leon, I am sure others in the forum will add to what I have to say. I do the beginner Shiva puja upto the Arati. The Chalisa on special days - you can actually sing the Chalisa in a neat tune , so its fun . When doing the "amritam kuru svaha" , you are using one of the flowers that you offered into the pot on the yantra with "Om namah shivaya" three times. I am not sure if these specific questions are answered in the video - maybe someone else can answer this question. If you are around the Northern CA area, there are a lot of people (including me) that are willing to help give you a step-by-step demo on the actual puja. The important thing is to get started and continue your practice. With time you will get better at it. There was talk of making a how to puja video some years back. Perhaps one day in will come into being.
Guest guest
Jai Maa! Namaste. Thanks again Latha! I've been bumbling along with the Durga Puja but the Shiva booklet I have is much more detailed. What if flowers are unavailable? I've read that colored rice is an acceptable substitute, so I was offering rice with tumeric into the pot. I've also read that leaves from a fruit tree are good to use. Would that work? I'm way up in the Sierra foothills, on the other side of the valley, but I would love to come to the ashraam again some day and learn how to offer puja correctly. Thank you again! Jai Maa! Guest guest
Leon, Swamiji repeatedly tells us to substitute an offering from the heart if the physical offering is not available. So if you lack flowers, reach inside the garden of your heart and take em out. I have seen some disciples substitute leaves (from any tree) if they dont have the flowers for the puja.
