Guest guest
Hi all, Swamiji just gifted me with a video cd ( Thank you, Swamiji!) and I don't know how to play it. I have a Mac 8.1. Will it play on this? If so, how? Here are some questions about Shiva puja: When we draw the two yantras, are these to be in front of the lingam or yantra? Are the flowers offered to be placed on this drawn yantra, or the lingam or metal yantra if we use them? Can the lingam or metal yantra be placed inside the second drawn yantra? It would be so helpful to see a picture of how things should be arranged before beginning the puja. Are there stones and certain colors that are associated with the planets and gods? I have a lot of stones and want to decorate the altar daily for the specific planet and do its stotram. And what about Neptune, Uranus and Pluto? Are there mantras for them? What are the best mantras for healing and which forms of Divine Mother/Father is associated with healing? I'd like to know what mantras etc. are used in the Jesus puja, the Sarada Devi and Ramakrishna pujas. And my last question. I bought a mala on ebay and it arrived from India frayed, dirty and obviously used. What should I do with it, as the seller won't communicate? Can it be cleansed for use? Thank you, Namaste Maureen
Guest guest
Hello, Maureen, I had the same difficulty with my videos cds and here is how I learned to open them on my computer. Open up the cd and go to the folder called MPEGAV. Open the file called AVSEQ01.DAT in your media player. That's all there is to it. (The video cds will play on DVD players, too...if you have one.) Once you know how, playing the video cds is simple. Enjoy! Guest guest
The file is on the cd, not in the media player itself. You can open the file with the player. Guest guest
Hi Maureen, Are you referring to the Beginner or Advanced Siva Puja? If beginner, then you are referring to the only possible two yantras 1) one to be drawn under your asan/seat. A triangle 2) the other a triangle, circle , square to be drawn on a separate plate or space on your altar. This yantra will be usually be to one side of the lingam or murti. And you will place a pot on top of this yantra. If you are referring to advanced, then you have to specify the yantras. Flowers can be offered on the lingam/deity or in a neat row in front of your altar - your imagination is the limit. I hope someone else will answer your question on stones and deities and malas as I dont know. Guest guest
Namaste Maureen, Continuing with your questions. Here is a response from Swamiji regarding the healing question ======================================================= Mantra for healing from the Chandi :- "Roganasesana pahamsi tushta " Mantra for healing from the Rudri :- "Tryambakam yajamahe.." Forms of Masculine/Feminine associated with healing :- Dhanvantari is male. Also Hanuman. Chandi, Durga, Kali all heal in the feminine. ========================================================== Here is an earlier post from the forum from Kamala on cleaning and reusing the mala. When cleaning and "purifying" a murthi, or statue of a deity, a rosary of rudraksha beads or a single rudraksha bead, the following steps have been recommended to me: While continuously reciting the mantra of the deity, or the Gayatri Mantra, you first bathe the item with warm soapy water, then mustard oil for the deity and sandalwood oil for the rudraksha, then bathe in milk, then rinse thoroughly with water and dry. For cleaning deities made of brass, Shree Maa has recommended using turmeric powder. Of course if you have a new rudraksha mala or individual bead to offer in the puja, that would be preferred. But if not, purifying the item is acceptable. It would be good to put the rudraksha bead on new, fresh thread. =========================================================== , "Maureen Nielson" <mnielson@n...> wrote: > Hi all, > > Swamiji just gifted me with a video cd ( Thank you, Swamiji!) and I don't know how to play it. Guest guest
Hello, Maureen, I was thinking about your question regarding the used mala, and I can't seem to keep this thought to myself so I am just going to go ahead and offer it to you. Don't use the mala. Get a new one. Consider the money spent (and lost) as perhaps a bit of money karma and buy a new, fresh mala from a happy source. IMHO, objects used for spiritual purposes need to be chosen from appropriate sources. Inexpensive malas can be purchased from Yogananda's Self-Realization Society ($12 for sandalwood), Ma's India, and Ammachi. These organizations offer wonderful choices of malas, and the money goes to such good spiritual use. (I also know a lady who is mala maker and offers free malas to anyone who needs one.) Please feel free to discard my suggestion if it doesn't resonate with you.
