Guest guest
Swamiji recommends us to chant all texts with Pranayam. Take the Chandi for example - Inhale for one length of the Navarna Mantra , and exhale through your mouth while chanting one or more (or even part of a) verse(s) from the text. So it would be Inhale - Mentally recite "Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce" and exhale one half of a verse for example "Sarvamangala mangalye sive sarvartha sadhike " Inhale once again - Mentally recite "Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce" and exhale the next half of the verse "Sharanye tryambake Gauri Narayani Namostute". This technique in pranayam and chanting does NOT involve retention of breath, just inhalation and exhalation. You could also break up the verse even further ( Just Sarvamangala mangalye) for one inhalation of the Navarna mantra if you are just getting familiar with the verses. The more proficient you get with the verses, you will start doing two , three even four verses to one breath (one inhalation of the Navarna mantra). First a word of caution - the key is consistency. Swamiji advises that we keep to the same rhythm for the entire duration of the recitation. So if you start with one verse to a breath, even if you find yourself picking up speed later, do not be tempted to do more verses to the breath. Stick with what you started out with for that recitation. Also, even if you are not into chanting texts, a simple way to try out this technique would be for normal Mantra japa. Inhale a length for your Mantra , say "Om Namah Shivaya" Exhale for 4 or 8 or 10 counts of Om Namah Shivaya. This powerful technique combines pranayam and japa all at once. Try it and see how it works for you. Jai Maa !

Guest guest
Wow! Well done Latha Nanda! This morning as i finished my recitiation of the Khad gala mala Stotram with a CD. from Karunamayi, I said to myself I must find out what this mantra is that she repeats just before the main text. It is not written out, as the stotram is. I knew it was Sarvamangala mangalye...something... Then I check my e-mails and you have provided the Mantra! This is pretty neat. It shows me that my definition of Satsang needs to stretch a bit. I am enjoying the maturity and depth of the posts on this discussion. It must be Shree Ma and Swamiji's sankalpa that we will benefit from each other's company even through a computer!
