Guest guest
One of the things that I often think about is how doing spiritual practices would impact my day-to-day life . I sit for a half hour and do a Shiva Puja and I sit in the evenings for an almost 3 hour Chandi. How does it impact my daily life? That is where the strength in the Sankalpa comes in. The stronger the intent that I HAVE to pray no matter what - then my life organizes around my prayer. I learn to say 'No' to other projects I learn to deny requests from people I learn to pay full attention to the work at hand so that I give it the very best. I learn to respect my time and others time I learn to be EFFICIENT Swamiji translates Sadhus as the "Efficient" ones. And I used to wonder what efficiency in particular (while a nice trait to have) had to do to a person on the spiritual path. I now understand - it is not that I need to be efficient to go towards God, but that when I try to take a step towards God, I try to organize my life in the most efficient way to give me time for my prayers . So how does my prayer impact my real life ? It helps me set priorities ... and develops Viveka or discrimination ... Seek ye first the kingdom of God .... and all things shall be added unto you. Guest guest
Latha Nanda, i had never heard that idea of being efficient in spiritual life until i studied Shivapuri Baba. he knew Ramakrishna. it is very satisfying to hear this as an essential part of practice, and for exactly the same reasons. peace, steve c. Guest guest
Thank you Latha. That's a great one. I have been trying to understand "discrimination" for a long time. Since I am a very spontaneous and demonstrative personality, I have often demonstrated a lack of discrimination. I asked Swamiji one time to explain it to me. He said (with a glow of love on his face), "is this action going to bring me closer to the goal?" That also seems to be a guide post for efficiency. Is the manner in which I am performing this action going to bring me closer to the goal? Are the words issuing forth from my mouth or my pen going to help me and others to get closer to the goal of Divine Union? What a blessing to have the example and inspiration of our Divine Teachers and of the members of the Divine Family !!! Guest guest
Puja life is the most real life I know of. It deepens all things. Without puja little seems real to me. In my view puja is what is most real, and all the other stuff is periferal to it. Puja is what makes real to me. , Ardis Jackson <anandamama@e...> wrote: > Thank you Latha. That's a great one.
