Guest guest
Swamiji says that that the power of a mantra is magnified when chanted before the fire. And I have personally seen the beneficial effects of a mantra when chanted in a group . Last Saturday, we had both opportunities, to chant the Vishnu Sahasranam as a group before the fire at the Mandir. The chanting was lead by Sarada. The fire ceremony started with the first respects paid to Lord Ganesh, moved onto the Vishnu Sahasranam, followed by a mala on Lakshmi's bija, Hanuman's bija, the Tryambakam, and a new one "Sat chit ekam brahma" and then finally a mala on Shiva. Maa was there, regally presiding over the homa . She was not there as the Guru, she was there as the mother, looking out for her son leading the fire ceremony. She even personally searched around for some kindling wood to help make the initial feeble fire grow. She made sure that everybody in the group followed Sarada's lead and called out more than once "Follow his lead". And each time we finished a mala, she would look at Sarada in his response to what to do next with a "whatever you want" and that sweet, gentle smile again. Mother, when you give us advice, we may choose to think over it and not follow it.... but when you love us and encourage us like you did yesterday , how can we not surrender at your feet and follow you to the ends of the earth? How fortunate we are ... that you look out for us. You look out for your children, encourage, inspire, nurture and love. What more do we want ? Guest guest
Namaste Latha, Can you ask Maa what "Sat Chit Ekam Brahma" means? It was wonderful. Guest guest
Hello, Latha, Although I haven't replied to your posts previously, I really wanted to tell you how much I benefit from your candid revelations. I am very new to "all this" and much of it both attracts and intimidates me. Your comments help ease my discomforts. I was especially relieved to have you write about your experience doing the arati dance because, for me, the dancing is a very difficult concept. I have never liked to dance, and I watch all the Devi Mandir videos searching the crowds for the "quiet" ones, the ones to whom I can relate, the ones who let me know that it's okay to be the sedate me that I am. Therefore, reading your comments was a total balm to my spirit. Knowing there is a person like you connected with Devi Mandir makes me feel that maybe in some way there is also room for me (if not in body, then in spirit). I am probably fumbling around most inarticulately in my effort to offer a simple "thanks." May I also ask if you can tell me please what mantras are used in the following quote from you? "The fire ceremony started with the first respects paid to Lord Ganesh, moved onto the Vishnu Sahasranam, followed by a mala on Lakshmi's bija, Hanuman's bija, the Tryambakam, and a new one "Sat chit ekam brahma" and then finally a mala on Shiva." Guest guest
Hi Karen, I don't know what satsang is like now at the Devi Mandir. When I was there from 1963 to 2001, there was almost no dancing. Sometimes the person who did arati danced in front of the murtis. Maybe a couple more danced in the back of the temple. When I saw the video of the tour across America I was shocked to see all those people dancing. It just wasn't that way at home at the Devi Mandir. I only saw Swamiji dance the arati once. I never saw Maa dance. So don't worry about not being a dancer. Maa loves the quiet ones.
