Guest guest
Namaste To dance or not to dance? That is the question. Lord Shiva is the Cosmic Dancer. He dances to dissolve the boundries and bring wholeness, bliss, harmony, and boundlessness to us all. His dance stirs the entire Creation. Without His dance, we do not exist. All life dances, nothing is static. Nothing stays the same. That is the power of His dance. He dances in every particle of Creation. Yet at the core of His dance, there is silence and stillness. Oh that we can realize that. This is Maa's prayer for us all. How to do so? Take a cue from Maa. I have seen Maa Herself dance during aarti. That was a blissful sight. She wants us to dance, too looooose our small self in the rythum of Shiva's drum. When the time is right, She asks us to arise and dance. She increases the beat, sings louder, and sends waves of Shakti through all of us to create a situation where the Dance is the meditation, the communion with the Divine. Where we are one with Her and Shiva. I realize that the small self does not want to let go. Holding onto boundries, ths self can continue to exert its control and keep us from the Divine. I too am self conscious, thought Latha thinks that every aarti I perform is an excercise in high speed aerobics. As I begin, I pray to Maa to take over and then I go with the flow. I do not always get into the dance. If tired, or the overall energy of the aarti is low, or subdued, I do not dance. What choice do I have anyway? When we chant, or do puja, we do not worry about being foolish if we make an error, we give it our all and keep going. Dancing is the same. Dancing is a technique, just like any other. I requires practice and faith. Yes faith. Faith that the Guru has designed a program for our maximum growth and we had best get on with Her agenda, and leave ours at the door, or otherwise we may as well stay at home and hide out. I hope this makes sense. Dancing is something I have always done. It is in my blood, and I trace my bloodline back to Shiva. While it works for me, it may not work for another. That is fine. That what makes Maa's program so wonder-full. There is something for everyone. Any comments? How would "you all" suggest someone who wants to dance in the group aarti get started? Guest guest
once long ago a friend and i were playing the guitar out in a field. we didn't think anyone was there. we were improvising on an indian raga. out of nowhere it seems a group of 8 or 9 children streamed out of the woods and danced around us in a circle, weaving, jumping, the tempo getting faster and faster ... everyone was laughing and dancing. then, they ran away ... just like that. steve c. , "inspectionconnection108" <inspectionconnection108> wrote: > Namaste > To dance or not to dance? Guest guest
Namaste Vishweshwar, This is a wonderful post. I too feel my connection to Lord Shiva, the Cosmic Dancer. I love to dance and always have. Dancing the arati is the most blissful dance I have danced. I agree that the small self doesn't want to let go and wants to envelope us in feelings in inadequacy or superiority. The opportunity of offering the light is that one can go beyond the small self and offer the Self to the Self. The dance if the form of the meditation, the communion with the Divine. Thanks for your expression of your experience. Ardis "inspectionconnection108" <inspectionconnection108 > Tue, 20 Jan 2004 10:44:12 -0000 Dancing with joy Namaste To dance or not to dance? Guest guest
Om! Maa's dancing beautiful child, You cant believe how much your beautiful words have moved me. I heartily applaud your suggestion "it requires practice and Faith". This is not about being the best dancer, this is about being in love so that God takes over our steps . You brought home a wonderful lesson , why we learn from a Guru in the first place "we had best get on with Her agenda, and leave ours at the door, or otherwise we may as well stay at home and hide out. " Spirituality is about surrender to wishes higher than ourselves and watching her dance through us. That is the best way to learn to dance.
