Guest guest
Namaste SE, I am hoping that Parvati and/or Sarada and/or anyone who has conducted a fire ceremony would be able to help out with the question. I have participated in many a fire ceremony as an onlooker and happily cheered 'svaha' with most of the mantras, and never actually lead one. My understanding is that offering to the fire burns karmas quickly. There is statement that chanting the Chandi in front of the fire makes the recitation many times more powerful than if chanted without the fire. I DO know that you can start small. Swamiji always asks us to start small in any venture and then expand the practices and I am sure the fire ceremony is no exception. The preparatory steps are available in the Hanuman puja book by Swamiji. I need to read these pages some more before I can get back to you. Maybe we can learn the homa together. Guest guest
Thanks for the links. Swami has said that you can make things as simple or complicated as you choose. With that in mind, it might be best for most of us to start out with simplicity. Why not just step up a flame then sit in asanna with a large bowl of rice and one of the puja books such as the Chandi. At the end of each verse, swaha and toss the rice. After starting out simple, you can probably become more elaborate with repeated practice. If you complicate things too much you might never get started. , Usha <ukavarthapu> wrote: > Namaste! there is information about the homa or agnihotra on www.agnihotra.org. > > > Latha Nanda <lathananda> wrote: > Namaste SE, > > I am hoping that Parvati and/or Sarada and/or anyone who has > conducted a fire ceremony would be able to help out with the > question. > > I have participated in many a fire ceremony as an onlooker and > happily cheered 'svaha' with most of the mantras, and never actually > lead one. > > My understanding is that offering to the fire burns karmas quickly. > There is statement that chanting the Chandi in front of the fire > makes the recitation many times more powerful than if chanted > without the fire. > > I DO know that you can start small. Guest guest
Dear SE, There is a basic, somewhat simple homa that beginners sometimes learn--- you can find it in Hanuman Puja by Swamiji, beginning on page 152 (after nava grahan puja). That is where you can read it, and chant it, as well as learn the meanings and mantras. If you are interested in learning more, please write back. Someone may be available who could teach you. Jai Maa, Jai Hanuman! Guest guest
Namaste Latha Sampath, I asked your questions to Swamiji. And he replied that women CAN definitely perform the homa. As for the time, he said "all day , everyday, 24 by 7 ). Since you live in Hyderabad and most of those that can help are based in the US, here is a suggested approach. 1) Please get the Hanuman Puja book from the website http://www.shreemaa.org/bookstore.htm 2) We will setup an online class (similar to the class on Saraswati Puja that was conducted recently) where we can have a live interaction. Here is wishing you the very best and praying that you get a lot out of your Homa class and practice.
