Beginning the Chandi

Namaste Everyone.

I have been doing the Shiva Puja for about 3 weeks now.

I think I can safely say I'm falling in love with Lord Shiva. Joy!

I've also found a copy of the Chandi in my local, beloved used book

store. That was a surprise! I bought the book. I'm taking a deep

breath, and beginning tonight. I feel silly, but I'm nervous! It

feels like standing on the high diving board. Or a date.

I guess I really just want to say thank you to everyone who's been

posting. It's really encouraging to read about your experiences.

So, thank you everyone. Thank you Swamiji for all your hard, hard

work. And Thank you Maa!

My love to you all.

Jai Maa!

Namaste Leon ,

That's so wonderful - all the best wishes and blessings for your

Chandi-date. Come back and tell us how it went !

That's so cool that you are doing the Shiva puja. Are you doing the

advanced or beginner ?

With warm wishes

Namaste Leon,

I have been a Shiva devotee since a child, but I started doing the

beginner Shiva Puja written by Swamiji since last August, to

wonderful benefits.

I now do the puja everyday, and my 8 year old grand daughter joins

me for the Arati at the end. We just bought a drum and a set of

chimes and we happily bang away on them during the song. We also

dance with reckless abandon, making the entire puja a joyful one.

And our home reverbrates with harmony.

My gratitude and humble pranams to Shree Maa and Swamiji for

providing us all with such a wonderful book.

God Bless you on your Chandi practice.

Namaste.

Hello Latha, I'm doing the beginner's puja, being a beginner and all. I'm

getting pretty comfortable with it. I've been using the CD as well, chanting

along sometimes, just listening to it in the car on the way to work. Great

stuff!

Well I'm off to look through the archives and review all the posts about

starting the Chandi.

Thanks!

I too have started reciting the Chandi only a couple months ago.

I've also been doing it at the havan with the fire. I too have

fallen in love with the process, being in the space and time of the

Chandi. Time flys by. Enjoy. It's the best way to spend time.

Namaste, Leon,

It is so wonderful to read your post about starting Chandi, and your sharing

your feelings about beginning.

With those feelings, and how you are falling in love with Lord Shiva,

I can only say, dive in!

You will never regret it! It's an incredible swim, and if you keep with it,

you

will change your life in truly beautiful ways.

As Latha noted in a previous post from a conversation with Swamiji,

the Chandi gives us very definite ways (if we dig, if we fall in love) to bring

ourselves to the Divine, back to the divine selves that we truly are.

I began chanting Chandi about 6 or 7 years ago, and I began with

the Devi Kavacam (of course, you can begin wherever you are drawn--that's

the best), receiving the armor of the goddess before I ventured forth into the

world. There were other passages I chanted every day as well, in the

morning and in the evening, and eventually the chanting grew, and I fell in

love more and more deeply; my fascination and digging, and receiving (Her

blessings) never seems to stop.

I am so happy you found Chandi in your favorite bookstore!--She must have

wanted to find you!

Karen,

Pranam - means - to bow down with devotion. Please refer to the last

chapter "Pranamah" in the Chandi Path.

A dictionary for translating Sanskrit transliteration -? Have you

checked out the last pages of the Chandi and also several of the Devi

Mandir Publications . They give the examples of the English words

that contain the sound of the transliterated syllables.

Latha,

Thanks for telling me what "pranam" means. I will follow up with your

other suggestions. A dictionary sure would be a big help, if only I

could find one. The only dictionaries that I have found have the

Sanskrit and English, but not the transliteration. I will keep on

searching; meantime, I will just take note of whatever words I can

find. Again, many thanks!

Best wishes and warmest regards,

Karen
