Guest guest
Several years ago, perhaps half a blink of an eye in Brahma's day, a few of us would gather before sunrise on Sunday and chant the Chandi at the havan kund in Devi Mandir. To our delight, some Sundays, there would be a note at the havan kund that Swamiji would lead the Chandi homa that morning. There is nothing to compare to the bhava, the energy, the experience that he brings to that offering. Chanting each mantra with Swaha.. I am one with God, seeing the fire burning brilliantly...Mother Chandi ...comes alive... To have the example of how it should FEEL is incomparable! He celebrates the demise of each asura with the ringing of the bells and then again at the start of each Chapter reminding us of who we are preparing to battle. By the end of Chapter 10, it was as if we were all one...breathing in Her mantra, Om Aim Hrim Klim Camundayai Vicce, singing and calling out to Mother.. All that was left was the bliss and joy. We no longer felt the burden of the negative energies.. As it says in Verse 32/Chapter 10 ...."The sacred fires burned brilliantly in PEACE ...". It was Her! It was all Her! In Chapter 13 when She is pleased with the devotion of the King and Businessman and asks ......"What do you want?" , Swamiji would raise his hands in prayer .."Mother, we are praying to you with the greatest intensity of love that we are capable of, please give us pure devotion, greater understanding, wisdom and peace". I used to wonder at that time...He is speaking to Her as if She is really there...but then he was Seeing Her with divine eyes!! Again She is always present, and makes Herself to be seen when we are ready. After the homa he'd give us a tilak with the blessing....."Three lifetimes filled with Peace is the blessing of Jamadagni (literally , He who gives birth to Fire), from the muni Kasyapa...............filled with Peace." (you can find this mantra under the Visarjana Mudra Tilak of the "Siva Puja and Advanced Yagna" translated by Swamiji.) We are all so blessed to have the privilege to be in the presence of such Gurus! Jai Maa! Ruk
Guest guest
Dear Ruk, Thank you so much for reminding me! I only received the blessing of chanting the full Chandi with Swamiji at the fire once, but it is one of the most special experiences of my life. Are you Rukmini Merani? Mother of Jay Merani? If so, I send you my love. Remember when we chanted the Lalita Sahasranam together in front of MahaLakshmi? That is also a very special memory for me. Guest guest
Dear Ruk, Thank you for sharing your memories ... We are fortunate to associate with beautiful people who are sooooo inspired and keep inspiring us everyday by bringing their attitude of worship in everything that they do . I am reminded of the words from the Sadhana Panchakam that says "Whenever possible seek out the company of the true and knowledgeable people, and serve the sandals of their lotus feet, and ask from them even one letter of the knowledge of Brahman and listen to the great words of wisdom from the Vedas. " We have been privileged to be allowed to wear out their doorsteps. We have been privileged to read about them and to hear their words of wisdom. We have also been privileged to be shown how to become like them . Now it is upto us to walk their walk .... The beautiful thing is that when we stumble as we try to walk like them , they are there to break the fall. And they keep throwing lifelines at us , in so many many many ways, when we start and when we stumble and when we "mess" up . If only we could catch even one of them - "even one letter of the knowledge of Brahman " , and hold onto to it , even the smallest advice that they have given us - what a difference it makes to our outlooks !!! My personal testimony ! Thank you Shree Maa and Swamiji. Thank you for being the examples. I love you. JAI MAA. Latha
