Written from a womans point of view. The story is for fun, but hope

at the end of it we have remembered a few of the names of Lord Shiva.

I urge you to refer to the 1008 names of Lord Shiva to get the full

meaning.

=============================================================

There are some men that you fall in love with , some for a few

Moments (om kaashthaayai namah) , some for a fortnight (om pakshaaya

namah) , some for months (om maasaaya namah) and some for years (om

samvatsaraaya namah).

And then suddenly you come upon the One - he is Different (Om

bhinnaaya namah)!

You think he is a Good Idea (om mahakalpaaya namah ). He is Heavenly

(om visargaya namah) ,has a Great Body ( om mahaangaya namah) , an

Excellent Face (om sumukhaaya namah) , Strong Shoulders (Om

mahaajatrave namah ) , Handsome (Om Lagaaya Namah) , and those

eyes ...ooh those beautiful eyes ... like those of a Deer (om

haryakshaaya namah). He also has a cool car - has a Great Conveyance

(Om mahaarathaaya namah)

He may really be a bit strange , have a Strange Form (om vikrtaaya

namah) , or have a Shaven Head (om mundaaya namah) but none of it

bothers you because He is Beauty Enhanced by (your) love (om

kaantaaya namah). To you he is the best among men (om nararshabhaaya

namah )

He reciprocates, he loves you (his devotee) too ( Om bhaktavatsalaaya

Namah) . He is Dedicated (om nivednaaya namah) , committed and

Steady (Om alolaaya namah).

The courtship is beautiful. He moves like lightning (om vajre namah) . He has a

thousand arms ( om sahasrabaahave namah ) and a hundred tongues (om jatajihvaaya

namah). He is a tiger (Om vyaaghraaya namah) . You are happy and He shares

delight (Om haadanaaya namah ).

The courtship could result in a Union (om yogaaya namah ) and an

Excellent Union (om suyuktaaya namah) at that. And you could spend

your life happily ever after raising a family . He is father (Om

pitre namah) and grandfather (Om pitamahaya namah) . He is a friend

(Om sahaaya namah) and also the most Beloved (om avaraaya namah). He

was Worthy of Union (om yojyaaya namah)

Or not !

You find its a mistake and that he is Punishment (Om dandine

Svaaha) .He is not even two-faced ,he is four faced (om

chaturmukhaaya namah), or whose face is on every side (om

sarvapaarshvamukhaya namah) of his personality. He has been working

you on Three Levels (om trivikramaya namah ). He thinks himself to

be the Light of the World (om svayambhuvatigmatejase namah) but you

know in reality he is the lord of animals (om pashupataya namah) . He

has been monkeying around with your life ( Om kapisaaya namah).

He stands before those that Cry (you) (om ahirodhaaya namah). But he

feels no emotion, he Stands like a Stone (om sheeladhaarine namah). He

is free from passion (Om neerajaaya namah) and caused you to lose the

best years of your life . He is the cause of ages (or your aging) (om

yugakaraaya namah) .He destroyed (your) love (Om Kaamanaashakaaya

namah) . He is now beyond (your) Love (Om asnehanaaya namah).

However you love story goes ... it is true that Love conquers all,

always, all the time (Om Kalaya Namah).

We bow to the beautiful God of Love (Om Vaamadevaaya Namah)

Happy Valentine's Day !!!

Steve,

This is a "normal" love story - a love that could end happily. "Or

not " refers to a love gone sour.

I just used the names of the Lord to fit in to the story. Nothing

deeper .

such an amazing language, so many words for spiritual concepts, the

entire language appears to revolve around that. and those tone words

like om, etc. so powerful.

years ago, so long, but seems like yesterday -- i had a record

[anybody remember those things?] by alan watts [remember him?] ...

anyway in it he chanted om, real nice and loud and sustained. i

thought this is cool, i gotta try this. but i don't want to bug my

parents [i was about 15 or 16] or have them think i am [even more]

crazy, so i went out to the woods in back to give it a try.

i stood there and just did this one OMMMMMMMMMM!

i was shocked, everything went to silence. i mean, dead silence like

i never "heard" before.

i stood there for a little while, then went back into the house.

How wonderful to have such an experience at such a young age! (and

yes, I remember Alan. He was at the height of his popularity when I

moved to San Francisco. I was 21.)

Many years later, after meeting Shree Maa and Swamiji , I made a

sankalpa to perform a ten day offering of driving up to the top of Mt

Tam in Marin County everyday chanting and singing songs to Kali Maa

and then finding a pure place to meditate. On the tenth day I drove

up to the top of Mt Tam with my daughter. A big storm was gathering.

The wind was incredible and the clouds were black. I could feel the

Mother's power. Then we got to a place where we could park and there

was a trail to the end of a high cliff over the Pacific Ocean.

Extending out over the cliff was large fallen tree trunk. I

immediately knew that I "needed" to get out as far as I could over

the ocean. My daughter was afraid, but she trusted me. As soon as I

was seated out on the end of the tree, the winds got even stronger

(later I learned that they were hurricane force winds). I started

chanting "Om hrim srim klim Paramesvari Kalike Svaha" with great joy

and inner calm. I "knew" IT was all Her. I felt no fear. How could

I fear when I am part of Her? After a brief time of chanting (time?)

the winds became absolutely still and there was only a deep silence

everywhere. I kept chanting the mantra with an undertone of "thank

you Maa". When I stopped, the winds resumed their fury and the black

clouds let loose their piercing rain. Walking back up the trail to

the car I had to hold on to my daughter and we were walking at an

angle. We were laughing joyfully. When we got to the car I asked my

daughter what she thought had just happened. She said "Kali showed us

Her Power and Her Mercy. She answered your prayers." My daughter,

who is not a practitioner, still remembers the magnitude of that

experience.

Jai Maa!!! Jai Kali Maa!!! Kali Maa Ki Jai!!!

This was when I was quite new to the Devi Mandir. I was very aware of

Shree Maa's connection to Kali and loved to sing along with her tapes

of devotion. I learned the mantra from Swamiji. He had it printed

on a little card that I carried everywhere. Those were the days of

my honeymoon with Maa and Swamiji and all they represent. I was in

LOVE in a big way! I used to drive up the roads to Mt Tam and feel

the mountain as a living part of the Mother. I felt very badly that

paved roads had been laid on her body and that my car was polluting

her air. But I chanted Her mantras and sang Her songs all the way.

Eventually I decided it was better to stay at home and do my sadhana

there and keep driving to an absolute minimum.

Your friend,

Ardis
