Guest guest
Steve, This is a "normal" love story - a love that could end happily. "Or not " refers to a love gone sour. I just used the names of the Lord to fit in to the story. Nothing deeper . Guest guest
such an amazing language, so many words for spiritual concepts, the entire language appears to revolve around that. and those tone words like om, etc. so powerful. years ago, so long, but seems like yesterday -- i had a record [anybody remember those things?] by alan watts [remember him?] ... anyway in it he chanted om, real nice and loud and sustained. i thought this is cool, i gotta try this. but i don't want to bug my parents [i was about 15 or 16] or have them think i am [even more] crazy, so i went out to the woods in back to give it a try. i stood there and just did this one OMMMMMMMMMM! i was shocked, everything went to silence. i mean, dead silence like i never "heard" before. i stood there for a little while, then went back into the house. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Steve, > > This is a "normal" love story - a love that could end happily. Guest guest
How wonderful to have such an experience at such a young age! (and yes, I remember Alan. He was at the height of his popularity when I moved to San Francisco. I was 21.) Many years later, after meeting Shree Maa and Swamiji , I made a sankalpa to perform a ten day offering of driving up to the top of Mt Tam in Marin County everyday chanting and singing songs to Kali Maa and then finding a pure place to meditate. On the tenth day I drove up to the top of Mt Tam with my daughter. A big storm was gathering. The wind was incredible and the clouds were black. I could feel the Mother's power. Then we got to a place where we could park and there was a trail to the end of a high cliff over the Pacific Ocean. Extending out over the cliff was large fallen tree trunk. I immediately knew that I "needed" to get out as far as I could over the ocean. My daughter was afraid, but she trusted me. As soon as I was seated out on the end of the tree, the winds got even stronger (later I learned that they were hurricane force winds). I started chanting "Om hrim srim klim Paramesvari Kalike Svaha" with great joy and inner calm. I "knew" IT was all Her. I felt no fear. How could I fear when I am part of Her? After a brief time of chanting (time?) the winds became absolutely still and there was only a deep silence everywhere. I kept chanting the mantra with an undertone of "thank you Maa". When I stopped, the winds resumed their fury and the black clouds let loose their piercing rain. Walking back up the trail to the car I had to hold on to my daughter and we were walking at an angle. We were laughing joyfully. When we got to the car I asked my daughter what she thought had just happened. She said "Kali showed us Her Power and Her Mercy. She answered your prayers." My daughter, who is not a practitioner, still remembers the magnitude of that experience. Jai Maa!!! Jai Kali Maa!!! Kali Maa Ki Jai!!! This was when I was quite new to the Devi Mandir. I was very aware of Shree Maa's connection to Kali and loved to sing along with her tapes of devotion. I learned the mantra from Swamiji. He had it printed on a little card that I carried everywhere. Those were the days of my honeymoon with Maa and Swamiji and all they represent. I was in LOVE in a big way! I used to drive up the roads to Mt Tam and feel the mountain as a living part of the Mother. I felt very badly that paved roads had been laid on her body and that my car was polluting her air. But I chanted Her mantras and sang Her songs all the way. Eventually I decided it was better to stay at home and do my sadhana there and keep driving to an absolute minimum.
