What does it take to make and keep a sankalpa , and how does Lord

Shiva help here?

Swamiji writes in the Advanced Shiva Puja book " Shiva is the Lord

of Sankalpa ".

I have an idea of my goal, but it needs clarity and refinement.

Swamiji writes "Shiva gives the strength of will power to define and

obtain our goals"

Once I know the goal, I need to stay focussed on the path. I need

to bring the mind back to the goal again and again.

Swamiji writes " Nothing deflects Shiva from His path"

I need help to not get distracted by the worldly attractions that

are so tantalizing and seductive.

Swamiji writes , "Shiva gives us the strength to attach ourselves to

the sustaining values of life, to the values that will stay with us

through eternity "

In this auspicious month of Magh, now that we are nearing

Shivaratri, here is the perfect opportunity to keep our minds

focussed on Lord Shiva, and ask for His help with our sankalpas.

For he is " the excellent charioteer of the horses of mankind "

and " awakens them from sloth and laziness to this renewed

energy " . MAY MY MIND BE FILLED WITH THAT FIRM DETERMINATION OF

SHIVA, THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF INFINITE GOODNESS " (Shiva Sankalpa

Stotram)

Oh Lord Shiva , "Bless us with consistency. Bless us with eternal

life in the vision of YOU" (Rudrashtadhyayi)

How to remain fixed on the goal is not an easy feat. Your commitment

gets tested again and again. This could be in a relationship with

anyone, or a vow you have taken such as a marriage vow or a sankalpa

vow. I believe the weakest link in the resolve of your goal is

tested. Where there is a character flaw or imperfection is this weak

link. It usually ends up being the thought called the Great Ego as

described in the Chandi. Without the guidance and protection of a

Guru one can be carried away with the swift moving flood water and

soon you are lost in Maya. Grab onto the hem of Maa's sari as Swamiji

advises and you will be safe.

Environment is also important in maintaining a one-pointed mind.

Blessed are those who have a spiritual community to provide them with

support and example.

I want to thank Shree Maa, Swamiji and all of my brothers and sisters

at the Devi Mandir family in helping me keep my resolve.

Jai Shiva!

oh latha thank you for writing down this last part so invigorating

and clarifying:

MAY MY MIND BE FILLED WITH THAT FIRM DETERMINATION OF

SHIVA, THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF INFINITE GOODNESS " (Shiva Sankalpa

Stotram)

and ...

Oh Lord Shiva , "Bless us with consistency. Bless us with eternal

life in the vision of YOU" (Rudrashtadhyayi)

such peaceful purpose, god-vision, fixed in sincerity, and great

resolve ...
