Guest guest
I read the introduction to the Advanced Shiva Puja book. Inspiring always, as in all of Swamijis books. I lifted some sentences from there and added in my own thoughts... I urge you to refer to the original text for more of the good stuff. Shiva is the Destroyer . From elementary physics we remember the axiom "Matter is neither created nor destroyed, it only changes form" So destruction is synonymous with transformation , changing what was known into something new.Shiva is always transforming all that was into what it is becoming. He allows for continual change in the ocean of existence. Why is the destructive aspect of Shiva so frightening ? Because of our fear of the unknown. We are insecure with change because we dont know what the change will bring. What will it be like when He is done ? Will He ever be done ? So the fear is present because of our attachment for wanting things to stay the same. And until we accept the will of Shiva, that change He will , and change He must, we will not know peace. By saying to God "I like the universe the way it is , PLEASE dont change it" we resist the course of nature. We create our own pain by our attachment to the way we things should be. shiva, as the Great Destroyer, will destroy the attachment too. That is his function as the Consciousness of Continual Transformation. So what happens when we worship Shiva? We begin to witness the changes of nature. We begin to identify with that which does not change. We begin to perceive the intrinsic reality, not the extrinsic appearance . Thereby, our attitudes undergo a sure and steady change, and we become unattached , knowing that everything that happens is because of Shiva's will. >From this perception, that everything is happening and unfolding as it should, we find that there is nothing to fear. No fear and therefore no more pain. We see pain and fear are nothing more than passing states of mind and accept the will of God. A permanent paradigm shift happens... Dear Lord Shiva, "Bring us to your stillness so that we may all share in your delight" (Rudrashtadhyayi - Chapter 5) In the Purusha Suktam (Chapter 2 of the Rudrashtadhyayi) , Swamiji translates "Those whose lives are illuminated with the rise of the radiance of divine light joyously proclaim :THE GODS ARE BOUND TO SERVE THOSE WHO KNOW THE SUPREME DIVINITY IN THIS FORM - AS THE ONE INDIVISIBLE BEING " HARA HARA MAHADEV KI JAI !!!! Guest guest
Sadhana at the Joyti Lingams - a video by Shree Maa and Swami Satyananda - is another beautiful expression of the Destroying/ Transforming aspect. The stage is set at Benares where the earring fell from Lord Vishnu's ear marking the place where Lord Shiva will make a eternal home of spirituality. As the video begins one witness different actions - washing, bathing, cremation ... all this going on while a Yagna to Lord Shiva is taking place. "everything is happening and unfolding as it should". Swamiji says that the Banks of the Ganges are never bereft of fire. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > I read the introduction to the Advanced Shiva Puja book.
