Guest guest
Namaste Chris, Perhaps your question has already been forwarded to Swamiji. In the meantime, hope this explanation helps. In my understanding, when the offerings are made to the fire (homa) they are called oblations There could be different kinds of offerings used in the oblations. A few that I am familiar are... In the Chandi Path, it says "For every one of the seven hundred verses, milk, sesame, ghee should be mixed together and offered as oblations to the sacrificial fire." The Vishnu Sahasranaam, the thousand names of Vishnu offered with Tulasi leaves with each Swaha. The Laxmi Sahasranaam, the thousand names of Laxmi offered with flowers with each Swaha. Offerings made during Puja at the altar, such as food offering, water, betel nut, milk, yogurt, etc....these are done without Swaha.
