Guest guest
Thanks Jose for looking into the meaning of kiilak. You are right about will power being very important. In fact will power is what Swamiji used to keep on chanting the Chandi when the tin roof fell on top of him during a storm. You can read many stories like this in Sahib Sadhu. Here is what Swamiji has to say on the Kilakam and Athargala stotram: The door to the secret of the Goddess is well guarded and protected. It has got a pin, a bolt, a security latch, and a chain. In order to enter into the secret of the Goddess we have got to open the door. The ATHAARGALA stotram is the praise which unfastens the bolt. In this praise we are praying to the Goddess to "give us your form, give us victory over this little ego and all of its appendages, give us welfare and remove all hostility." We want the Goddess to open up the doors to the secret so we can perceive her real form. By remembering and trying to see Her form we open the bolt. That is the victory and welfare after which all h ostility i s removed. For those who are devoted and praise her with devotion she gives inexpressible peace and delight. The KIILAKAM is the praise which removes the pin or security latch. There is alot contained in the removal of the pin. Those that praise by this attain the perfection of indifference. Indifference means to witness without attachment . This indifference means we are in perfect equanimity. In verse 8 it says, "He gives and in return he receives, and by no other means is She pleased. And this is the form of the pin by which it has been bound by the Great God." As you sow, so shall you reap. Whatever you give that is what you are going to receive. If you give a little bit, she is pleased a little bit. If y ou give it all she will be completely pleased.. This is kripaa or grace. Kri means to do and pa means to get. Do and get. Swamiji says that once we understand what grace is we start to discriminate what we want to do because we know what we want to get. If we chant with full concentration and great devotion we become her and if we chant with a wandering mind then it will be an exercise in expanding our asan and enduring the pain in our knees and increasing our endurance for doing greater practices in the future. Whoever will give totally will get a total result and whoever will give partially will get a partial result. If our longing for Godliness is only one amongst the many desires then we can expect that we will only get a little bit of Godliness because all of the other desires have to be fulfilled. The quality of our attention is important and when we take selfishness away from our chanting and out of our sadhana we get to remove the pin and have a new way of perceiving life and no longer think what is in it for me but what can I offer to this creation. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Namaste All, > > Does anyone know the answer to the following questions?
