Guest guest
Namaste Steve aka Bingo, The navarna mantra is another name for Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce. The 32 names of Durga is in beginner Durga Puja book. It is also called as Durga Dvatrimsannama Mala. It starts with "Durga Durgaarti shamani Durga Padvi nivarini" The Siddha Kunjika stotram is in the Chandi book. It is called the Key to Perfection and it is said that the recitation of the Chandi is incomplete without reciting this stotram at the end. Doing the entire Chandi - nope I havent memorized it - I simply read aloud from the text, again with Pranayam. Inhale for the length of one Navarna mantra and exhale 1 or 2 verses of the Chandi. Re chanting any or above of all the texts without initiation - I wouldnt place too much emphasis on the need for initiation before chanting these shlokas. Swamiji repeatedly tells us "Siksha comes first then Diksha" ie - we have establish our worthiness as a disciple before we can become one. There is an interesting question in the FAQ regarding this topic. Would urge you to refer to http://www.shreemaa.org/faq/htm Hope this has whetted your appetite for more ) Hey we should think up of some kinda online Navaratri sankalpa - any ideas ? Keep those posts comin' . Guest guest
good thanks for clearing that one up about initiation and the slokas ... also this i appreciate: "Siksha comes first then Diksha" ... i had heard that and did not know what it meant ... understanding this NOW seems very timely [for me.] i ordered chandi path and others and the ordering page sort of "died" and i noticed the books are still on the "shopping cart" so i will run it through again ... hopefully to not receive too orders, as i have only 2 eyes. ;-) thanks latha. steve c. , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Namaste Steve aka Bingo, > > > The navarna mantra is another name for > > Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce. > > > The 32 names of Durga is in beginner Durga Puja book. Guest guest
ideas for an online Navaratri sankalpa ... hmmm ... the important thing is, to keep that devotional feeling ... parvati did an online class not too long that i missed ... how was that event handled, that might provide some useful ideas. you could likewise maybe do an on-going chant, where one person "hands off" to another ... an online version of what i think swami is planning for the future at devi mandir [?] ... this might involve those little inexpensive webcams, maybe not. so then, i would say it 4:00 to 6:00, then someone else does 6:00- 8:00, and we plan some sort of shifts so the mantra is continuous through a certain time line. maybe just an e-mail or post on the forum that the mantra is being handed off is adequate. that hand-off moment must be very powerful, as focused as i imagine it must be when one person takes it up from another in person. so if online is enough i do not know. anyway this is just an idea, since you asked, i'm not even sure it is a good one, you guys be the judge ... love y'all steve , "Latha Nanda" <lathananda> wrote: > Namaste Steve aka Bingo, > > > The navarna mantra is another name for > > Om Aim Hrim Klim Chamundayai Vicce. > > > The 32 names of Durga is in beginner Durga Puja book. Guest guest
This is exactly what I thought, which is why I was surprised to read Satish's post to the contrary. Guest guest
Also to more reiterate the previous point, you are referring to Kularnava Tantra as if it is a fixed thing. I am sure there is more than one tradition of what Kulanarva Tantra is and what its proper translation is. Neither is necessarily more correct than the other. This is usually a concept hard to grasp for the Western mind and these days the modern Eastern mind as well. For chanting mantras like navarna etc one needs initiation.Kularnava tantra 15 th chapter sholkas 20 and 21.Japa of a mantra heard by chance or seen by deceit or picked froma patra(page in a manuscript)can only lead todisaster. - 20Those who seeing mantras written in books practise their japacommit a sin tantamount to Brahminicide resulting in disease andmisery. -21.Those are the words of Shiva. There are numerous statements like the above in various tantras. There is no necessity to intentionally disrespect the shastras bytransgressing them when there is no need to do so.None has the authority to give sanction to anyone to recite mantras withouty upadesha.Rgds
Guest guest
I fully intend to do the best I can with what resources are available to me. I have both the Devi Mandir Books and Tapes, so that is what I will work with. I live on with the hope to re-locate close to the Devi Mandir. Recent events in my life may allow for that soon. , "Mahamuni" <mahamuni@c...> wrote: > This is exactly what I thought, which is why I was surprised to read Satish's post to the contrary.
